"Bring her back this very instant."
"Alice, I gave you this phone number for emergencies only," Sam says, turning his back from the other members of the pack currently jumping from the cliffside to the choppy sea countless meters below.
"This is an emergency!" She shrieks on the other end. "Our bride is missing!"
"Her wedding is months away," he responds flatly, only knowing so thanks to Paul's incessant excited thoughts on the subject. "I'm sure she'll turn up before then."
He goes to hang up, not certain why he of all people was called for this situation in the first place, but another high-pitched scream over the phone stops him.
"What's wrong now?"
"That was Edward," Alice answers. "He just realized Bella is missing too. Have you really not seen her or Phoebe? The only note they left was all of our forks taped to Edward's piano."
Sam has to keep himself from scoffing as he says, "I think I would know if two vampires were in my to-"
Before he can finish his sentence, two blurs of pale skin with smudges of neon colors dart past either side of him, whipping dirt and leaves into the air in their wake. The creatures leap off of the cliffside, rising to almost the tops of the trees as they do so and for a brief moment, it's as though they're frozen in air. Bella and Phoebe, in pink and orange swimsuits alike, look like porcelain olympic divers as they execute their fall to the ocean below.
Their heads pop out of the water moments later, their darkened hair plastered to their faces only drawing more attention to their too pale features. Cheers are heard from Jacob and Seth below as they realize who's joined them, their tan arms engulfing the vampires. More of the boys are quick to join the fun, but Paul gets yanked back by Sam the second his phone call is finished.
"What is our number one rule?" He hisses.
"Don't listen to Jake?" Paul answers, sheepishly avoiding Sam's piercing gaze.
"What is our number one rule regarding vampires?" Sam rephases, his tone growing more agitated by the second.
"Don't make you look stupid," Paul mutters, staring directly at the ground instead of at his pack leader.
"I don't care how friendly we are with any of them. We do not slack when it comes to the reserve's safety. There are no surprise visits. I am to know when any of them are returning and for how long before they get here," he lectures. "You are not to come home until they are gone, got it? It is your responsibility to follow every move they make and ensure none of the treaty's rules are broken."
