The taxi drive from the airport to the hotel was relatively short, so I didn't mind it.
"That'll be $32 thank you," the taxi driver said. I reached into my purse and retrieved a couple of crumpled up notes and handed them to the driver. I exit the vehicle and grab my luggage from the trunk.
As I walked into the hotel, two young men approach me.
"Hey, your that girl from YouTube right?" A blonde guy said. He had such a thick 'surfer dude' accent that it was almost comical.
"Ummm, yeah, I am," I answer. I'm shy and awkward around new people.
"Well, we HATE your videos."
"Huh?"
"We hate your videos, they're all so dumb and attention seeking." By this point, I could feel my eyes start to water. I'd never had someone come up and be so bluntly rude to me before; it was a shock.
"Yeah, and your vlogs are really boring. You do nothing in them." I push through the boys as they continue to say mean things. I go over to the front desk to retrieve the keys to my apartment and quickly run to the elevator, and by now I am full on crying. When I get to my floor, I run to my apartment. As I turn a corner, I run into a person. I fall to the ground, and the contents of my handbag fall to the ground. My phone, my vlogging camera, my chargers, my iPod, my laptop, a bottle of water and my Hunger Games book, all on the ground.
"Oh, sorry." Someone says as they come down to help me.
"OMG! I love The Hunger Games!" They say with excitement.
"Me too, it's my third time reading the series," I say.
"This is a nice camera! Are you a photographer or something." They say.
"No, I'm a Youtuber. I make...." I start.
"NO WAY! Me too!" They say. "Are you crying?" They asked. Until now I had kept my head down so they couldn't see the tears. Well, that worked. I look up at them.
"Sorry, some boys said mean stuff about my videos, and I'm very emotional," I respond.
"Well, my names Joey." He said, extending out his hand.
"Katie," I say as I reach out to his hand.
"Your Australian aren't you?"
"Yeah, just got here like 30 minutes ago."
"What room are you in?" He asks.
"Ummm...... 106."I hesitantly respond.
"Really! I'm 107! What a coincidence!"
"Oh, that's cool."
"You wanna join me for frozen yoghurt?" I think for a bit, LA froyos are meant to be good. But then I remember that I have a whole heap of footage to edit before I eventually knock out.
"Maybe another time, I'm exhausted, and I need to upload my vlog, sorry."
"That's okay. See ya later then!"
"Bye." I walk back to my room he was very kind; he'd be a great friend. WAIT! Did I make a friend!?!?!?
