Steven had never run so fast in his life.
Worn sandals pounded against the ground, kicking up dirt, then sand before finally reaching the steps of his house. Leaping up two stairs at a time, he burst through the door just as the warp pad activated. Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst immediately locked their eyes with Steven as he entered, and worry spread across their faces.
"Steven!" Pearl exclaimed as she stepped forward with the others. "Did you find Y/n? Where's Connie?!"
"Connie-... the gems! There's Homeworld gems out there! They took a bunch of people!" Steven gasped for breath. "This is an emergency!"
Pearl's eyes went wide with shock, "Why is Homeworld stealing humans off the boardwalk?!"
"I don't know," Steven replied. "But they're only taking my friends! They even got Connie, and I think they might've gotten Y/n! If we don't do something, they're gonna take them into space!"
"And our spaceship was jacked, so if they leave Earth..." Amethyst muttered nervously.
"They'll be gone for good." Garnet finished through gritted teeth; her arms crossed tightly. Her fingers dug into her biceps slightly as she remembered their brief encounter with... the "other" Y/n. What they had said. What they had implied. They couldn't get this wrong. She couldn't get this wrong.
"Ugh!" Amethyst groaned. "Who are these guys?"
"That little gem, the one I saw before. Her name is Aquamarine!" Steven explained.
"What?!" Pearl recoiled at the name. Steven continued.
"She's got a big friend, a fusion, named Topaz." Garnet turned away as Pearl and Amethyst looked at him in fear.
"A topaz fusion and an aquamarine?" Pearl repeated nervously. Amethyst frowned and turned to look at her.
"Are they a big deal?" She asked, unsure if it was a dumb question to ask.
"Uh, yes?!" Pearl shouted at her, clutching her own head in her hands before bringing them down again, her fists still clenched. "Blue and Yellow Diamond must have sent them personally!"
"The Diamonds? Oh, no..." Steven's heart sank into his stomach, his blood running cold. "They must be collecting more humans for The Zoo!" He concluded.
"But there's loads of humans on Earth." Amethyst reasoned. "Why are they only grabbing your friends?"
"Maybe..." Steven began, "because my friends are the best!"
Pearl and Amethyst looked away awkwardly, wondering if the reality of the situation wasn't really sinking into him. Before anyone else could speak, a buzzing noise came from Steven's front pocket. He turned to pull out his phone and the gun resting snugly in his back pocket glimmered from the light above, catching the keen eye of the pale gem.
"Where did you get that?!" Pearl gasped.
"I found it in the woods." Steven replied quickly before also gasping as he glanced at his phone. "It's from Connie!" He turned his phone to show the other gems what she had sent. A surprisingly clear picture of the hot dog stand near Funland. "I know where they are!" Steven pocketed his phone and turned, immediately bolting out of the temple. Pearl was the first to follow.
"At least hand it to me!" She shouted after him. The others followed quickly behind, worry spreading through their minds like fire.

They reached the boardwalk quickly, the gems' weapons drawn. "Stay alert." Garnet said cooly as they all stopped to look around. "They could be anywhere."
