Y/n watched as the dirt and blood were rinsed from their body, the dark water swirling around the drain in a hypnotizing fashion. Steam filled the bathroom as the hot water poured down on Y/n as their mind worked.
'Rose's sword was too weak to shatter gems, so Bismuth made the breaking point to shatter Pink. Rose didn't want to shatter gems and bubbled her... so why did she shatter Pink in the end? And how? There's no way she used her sword...'
Y/n shifted their leg slightly as it throbbed dully, reminding them of the small puncture wound they still had to deal with. Their eyes refocused as they finally noticed the water was significantly cooler than before.
With a sigh, their body moved mechanically. They reached for the shampoo and began washing their hair, returning to their thoughts.
'There had to have been someone else and she's lying about it just being her. Maybe to protect that gem. Pearl, maybe... Or another gem I've never met. Unless... it was me, and she's protecting my identity...'
They lazily scrubbed their scalp, a calming sensation relaxing their body ever so slightly. Closing their eyes and ducking their head under the stream of water, they rinsed their hair thoroughly before moving on to their body.
'Is that why Rose even involved me? Was that my purpose all along? To shatter Pink? No, she wouldn't do that just to protect me. She hardly knew me back then... But so did Pink...'
As they absentmindedly scrubbed their torso, their hands reached their stomach and they flinched hard from the sudden feeling of their nail catching skin. They let out a small panicked gasp and pulled their hands away, staring down at their belly.
Not a scratch.
Closing their eyes and breathing deeply, they quickly finished lathering their body before rinsing off. Shutting the water off, they grabbed the towel on the rack and began drying themself. Wrapping the towel around them, they sighed and looked at themself in the mirror.
Dull, tired eyes stared back at them pitifully. They sneered as the face of their older self passed through their mind.
'Shatterer.'
With a shiver of disgust, they fixed their hair a bit before finally stepping out of the bathroom.
"Hey." Amethyst said from the bed, propped up on her elbow with a teasing smirk. Y/n jolted, causing the towel to slip slightly. They caught it before it fell and shot a halfhearted glare at the gem as they tightened the towel again.
"What're you doing here?" Y/n asked. Amethyst frowned and sat up fully.
"Is that what I get after you've been gone for days? 'What're you doing here?' Should be obvious why I'm here." Amethyst asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Sorry, Amethyst," Y/n apologized as they browsed their drawers, pulling out a plain shirt, underwear and pajama pants. "I just thought you'd be more worried about Steven."
"Steven's already in bed, actually. He talked to Connie for a bit, came back in and went right upstairs. Pearl and Garnet are watching him like hawks." Amethyst explained with a little laugh.
"Ah. Yeah, I can imagine he's exhausted. We both went through some crazy stuff up there..."
"...Do you wanna talk about it?" Amethyst offered.
"I don't know. Yes but no? Not right now, I guess." Y/n replied with a shrug as they slipped on the underwear and pants. They faced away from Amethyst and let the towel drop completely before tugging the shirt on with a relieved sigh.
"Well, uh... I'm here if you need to talk, y'know?" Amethyst said with a scratch of her head.
"Yeah, I get ya. Thanks, Amethyst." Y/n said as they made their way over to the bed. Amethyst scooted aside to let Y/n sit. To her surprise, they stretched their arms with a groan and slowly leaned sideways, wrapping their arms around her in the process and dragging her down.
