"All Subjects please report to Cafeteria. Disruption will result in isolation." The same female voice boomed loudly. By now I already knew the drill, I opened the door and walked down the hall looking at the other teens who looked tired.
My eyes searched for Miles, Sam or Chip. Having no luck, I entered the cafeteria to spot Sam's blue hair seated at a table. I grinned as I strode over, ruffling her hair as I sat across from her.
She rose an eyebrow, "Your still alive." I frowned, "Why wouldn't I be?"
A shadow fell over her face, "Because... We're dying off. The crap they put in us is destroying our system. I watched a guy die. Don't you see Jace? We're lab rats. We're supposed to test some medical stuff out and look at that, people are dying. "
I stared at her in fear and disbelief. People are dying?
"We need to escape." A familiar voice said. We both turned to see Chip standing  with his arms crossed and hair messed up as ever. He sat next to me, staring sadly at his plate. No one talked. The buzz of conversation seemed to die down a bit from breakfast. The realization of what's happening to us really hitting hard. "We're all going to die." Chip said sadly, looking at Sam and then me. "I've been thinking about it for hours. They take the homeless, because think about it, no one will miss us. No jobs, homes or families. Then they inject us with some serums to record the results. They feed us drugs in our food to keep us contained and most of us are dying off."
Sam clenched her fist, "This isn't fair! We don't deserve this! We didn't do anything!"
Chip nodded, "True, but they don't care. They're evil people and we need to escape."
"How?" I asked, staring Chip down, "How the hell are we supposed to escape?"
Chip glared back, "I'll come up with something. Now stop swearing Jace."
I rolled my eyes, looking down at my plate. A sandwich, potato chips, a juice box and carrots sat on the plate.
"The sandwich and chips are drugged." Chip said. "They tend to drug the good food, which teens will eat."
I took a carrot and began crunching down on it, looking around for Miles. I hope he wasn't dead. Or Aaron. Or worse yet Avery. Geez I've got to stop thinking like this. The bell rang out and we were ushered out. The three of us stayed silent, our gazes lowered. I walked down the white hall, reading the plaques for my number. Then an idea hit me. Why should I go back? Why not go off? Adrenaline sparked through me as I bolted forward, my bare feet slapping against the cold floor, my brow furrowed as I pushed through teens. I spotted Sam about to open her door.
"Sam!" I cried as I ran past. She grinned as she took off after me, surprisingly fast. By now teens pressed themselves against the walls, letting us pass, some cheering us on, others joined our run, trailing behind. It felt amazing to be so full of life as we ran, our feet flying under us and the pride of leading our small revolution. Shouts followed us as the guards began chasing us, waving some type of gun. "All Subjects report to your assigned room immediately." The speakers sputtered out in an attempt to stop us. Never! I thought as I breathed heavily. My legs burned as the hallway began ending, up ahead a couple elevators and a door to the stairs. I headed for the stairs, banging open the door and running down the steps two at a time. We're almost out! We can escape! Suddenly a pain flashed in my head, and my vision blanked out. I lost control of my limbs as I flew down the stairs, fading out of consciousness. The last thing I felt was pain before I blacked out.
