It was raining when we pulled up to the lab. We all recognized it's tall, business like exterior but also knew the torture that awaited us inside. Chills ran up and down my spine as we all waited anxiously, no one knowing what to do."Any plans?" I asked, imagining Aaron in there.
"Yeah. We stick together, Miles going invisible, I'll work on figuring out where Aaron is and Jace healing anybody who gets hurt. Miles, your our cover. Make sure no one gets us. We'll have to find a scientist and make him tell us where Aaron would be located. Ready guys?" Chip said, looking at us. We nodded and Chip opened his door, jumping out. I followed and Miles did the same. We stood huddled together as rain poured down, looking into each other's eyes like it'll be the last time.
"Listen guys, if anything goes wrong in there... You two were the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Thank you all so much for being my friends." Chip said, wiping rain drops off his glasses.
"Aw, your the best friend I've ever had too." I said, giving him a hug. Miles fist bumped him. I then turned to Miles, his eyes blazing with determination and courage.
"I love you Miles, the second I saw you outside Starbucks, I fell into love. You mean everything to me." I said, expecting a heart warming speech from him too. Instead, he grabbed my shoulders and pulled me in for a kiss, closing his eyes as we embraced, feeling Miles against me was an amazing feeling. I sighed as we pulled apart, Miles eyes now blazing with love.
Chip grinned and motioned us to follow him towards the building. Thunder boomed overhead, the normal cliche of entering a horrifying place. Chip opened the door as Miles disappeared beside me. We strolled in, keeping our heads low. The lobby was brightly lit, scientists chatting quietly with one another, waving around clipboards. My gaze stopped at a young woman at a desk, her blonde hair pulled up in a bun and her chocolate brown eyes scanning papers. Approaching her, I tried my best to look excited. She glanced up at us with worried eyes.
"Hi! I'm Josh and this is my cousin Peter!" I lied, patting Chip's shoulder. "My dad works here! He said to stop by sometime! Can we see him?"
"What's your dad's name?" She asked, believing our story.
G
"Oh he works with some guy with a shape shifting ability!" I said, hoping to find Aaron. The blonde narrowed her eyes, glancing over at two guards. I knew she had discovered we weren't exactly who we led up to be."Here, I'll show you my I.D." I said calmly, reaching into my bag and grabbing a lethal knife. Before she had time to react I jumped over her desk and put the knife to her neck, wrapping my other arm around her body.
"If anybody moves, she gets it!" I yelled loudly, catching the attention of everyone in the room.
"He's bluffing!" One of the guards said, reaching towards his gun. I pressed the knife harder, making blood run down her throat, "Wanna bet?!"
Silence resumed. "All I want to know is where the Subject with shape shifting abilities is. Tell me and I'll release her." I said, guilt wanting to eat away at me.
"Level five, room five two eight!" A voice called out.
I nodded and released the woman, who ran towards the guards. They unleashed hell on us, shooting relentlessly from their guns. I ran towards Chip, tackling him to shield him from bullets.
"Now what?!" Chip yelled over the sound of the gunfire.
"Run towards the elevators!" I cried as my health fought against the bullets. "On three! One! Two! Three!"
We leapt up and bolted for the elevators, hoping Miles was following. Right when I entered, I slammed my hand on the five button, pressing the close door button repeatedly. Guards ran towards us with bullets spraying everywhere as the doors slowly closed. Relief stepped in as the elevator began moving, Chip pressing a big red Emergency buffo to make it stop. It stopped and we all took a deep breath.
"Miles?" I asked, looking around. He began forming right I front of me, a big grin on his face.
"Thank God..." I breathed, smiling back.
"What's the game plan?" Chip asked, looking between us.
"We rescue Aaron who's in room... What was it again?" I asked, suddenly forgetting the room.
"Five hundred and twenty eight." Miles answered, patting my shoulder.
"Okay so we head up to floor five, where a bunch of hairdos should be waiting... We kill them, then find his room." Chip clarified.
"Yep!" I said, pressing the red button to start us off again. Adrenaline raced through me as the numbers counted up; 2, 3, 4. I held my breath as it read five and the doors opened with a ding.
I stared in shock at the sight in front of me. No. It couldn't be. It can't be!
Sam stood in the hallway, a gun aimed right at me. She then pressed the trigger with a grin.
