The van rolled along the road, soft chatter drifting back and forth from the girls. Miles had his eyes glued to the road, trying to stay between the lines."What state are we in anyways?" Chip asked, sitting up and yawning.
"Ohio." Miles answered, taking a breath. "We're resting at a hotel for tonight."
He pulled into a Baymont, parking the car nicely. We all jumbled out, looking strange in our hospital gowns. We followed Miles to the door, stretching limbs and yawning. Miles carried Aaron once again, the young boy asleep.
The lobby was nice, a few tired tourists meandering about. Miles approached the front desk, where a lady with black glasses and curly dark red hair.
"Anybody got money?" He whispered to our group.
"Here!" Harper said, handing Miles two fifties.
Miles widened his eyes, "Thanks!"
The lady sighed as he handed her the money, "Two rooms please."
She reached behind her desk and handed him two room keys and a receipt. We followed Miles quietly, pressing the button for the elevator.
"Let's do guys in one room, girls in the other." Chip said, looking at our faces for a reaction.
"Sounds good." Miles said, stepping in the elevator. All eight of us fit, but it was rather squished. The elevator music filled the silence as we arrived at floor three. Miles lead us towards our rooms, stopping in the hall and handing Sam the key for their room.
"Goodnight." He mumbled and entered our room. Chip nodded, "Night." He also entered the room. I gave Avery a tight hug, "Be brave Av, I'll be right across the hall if you need me."
She smiled, "I'm so glad your okay."
I nodded, "Me too. Goodnight squirt. Say... How did they let you bring in Iris?"
Avery proudly lift her shirt to reveal Iris, who she had hid. I laughed and pat the cat's head, "Night to you too."
Harper smiled at me, "Goodnight Jace."
"Goodnight." I said, heading to my room. Miles was strewn across a King sized bed, skipping through TV channels. Chip was cuddled up under blankets on his bed, Aaron asleep on a cot. I walked over to Miles, grinning as I leapt onto the bed, crushing his arm.
"Ow..." Miles muttered as he moved his arm. I didn't respond as I rest my head on his shoulder, watching a News cast.
"I love you... You know that?" He asked, brushing hair out of my eyes.
"Get a room!" Chip grumbled from his bed, still buried in blankets.
"Just as much as I love you Miles." I responded, wrapping an arm around him as I closed my eyes. I could almost sense Miles smiling as he held onto me, protecting me from anything that could ever harm us. For once in my crazy life I actually felt safe in this Baymont Inn and Suites, cuddling with the boy who made me feel amazing. I began drifting off into a dreamless sleep.
--------------------------------------
I awoke suddenly, sitting up in confusion. The room was laced in darkness, a boring talk show on TV. I blinked, wondering what woke me up. That's when I heard it again, a knocking on my door. I shot up, careful not to wake Miles up.
I stepped onto the ground, tiptoeing towards the door. Avery must have had a nightmare. I approached the door, nervous for some reason.
"Don't open the door." Aaron whispered from his cot, his eyes reflecting the TV. I ignored him, turning the knob and peering out. The hall was empty. That's when I saw it, movement near the soda machine. I closed the door, but not all the way so I could enter once more.
"Who's there?" I asked, creeping forward. No response as I approached the machine, prepared to fight. A man stepped out from the shadows, wearing thin glasses and a worn face. He wore a white jacket and black dress pants, his brow creased as I stared at him.
"Jace, when we removed your ability, we implanted a bomb inside of you." He said coldly. "And I'll never forgive myself, but you have less then an hour until explodes. I just thought I should warn you."
I stood in shock for a few moments as he showed me my X-rays. Tears threatened to fall as I roused everyone, planning to say goodbye. As everyone gathered in the hall, looking tired and half awake, the doctor and I explained what had happened. Stunned looks all around.
"N-n-no!" Sam cried, tears in her hazel eyes. I enveloped her in a hug, "Stay alive... Don't forget me."
Avery cried openly, and I hugged her tightly, "I'm so sorry Av... I'm so sorry... Be brave..."
I stood and shook Taylor and Harper's hands, leaning close I whispered, "Harper, it would mean... The world if you could... Could watch Avery for me."
She nodded quickly, "Of coarse, yeah."
I gave a sad smile and continue down the row, hugging Chip and Aaron. Finally, I turned to Miles. He leaned against the wall, his arms crossed and his eyes full of sadness. I ran and tackled him, pressing my lips against his. It was the deepest kiss I've ever had, and felt amazing. I leaned into him, all my emotions blocked as I held onto the boy I loved. Having no choice, I pulled away, "Miles... Don't mourn me forever. I want you to be happy, I want you to move on. Live life to its fullest, and never give up on your dreams. I love you so much Miles."
Tears welled up in his eyes as he nodded, "I love you."
"Goodbye Miles." I forced myself to say as I turned and began walking towards the doctor. I turned back to them, "Have a good life guys."
The doctor led me out, to his pickup truck, "Where do you want to go?"
"The facility. I want to destroy it." I said. The doctor tore down the road, driving as fast as humanly possible towards the facility. I rolled down my window and blast music, enjoying my last few moments alive. I leaned my head out the window and whooped loudly.
After fourth minutes we arrived, hopping out and running into the building. Guards stared at me in shock as I ran in with the doctor, before sitting in the middle of the floor.
People stared confused as I waited. Waited for it all to be over. To end it. I closed my eyes as a loud ticking began sounding from my stomach. I closed my eyes, tears streaming down my cheeks as I waited.
Out of nowhere, it happened. A loud noise ripped through the facility as fire exploded everywhere. There was pain and then:
Nothing.
