Time seemed to slow down as the bullet entered my chest, spraying blood everywhere as I fell backwards, hitting my head on the wall. Pain consumed my chest before it became numb, healing the wound quickly. Chip stared in shock as Miles charged, his eyes full of fury.

Chip helped me up as Miles locked in on Sam, tackling her to the ground. They began fighting, fists flying.

"Wait!" I cried, running and shoving Miles off her. I stared at Sam, her eyes looking just beyond my shoulder.

"Sam! Sam it's me, Jace!" I cried, looking her in the eyes. She struggled against me, her hand reaching for the gun.

"Dammit Sam!" I cried. "What happened to you?!"

She flung me off and snatched up the gun, breathing heavily. She pointed it to Miles, then me.

"Sam..." I whispered. "It's me..."

She aimed it at Miles, then hesitated, as if holding herself back before shooting several times at Miles. Time seemed to stand still as Miles dropped like a stone, blood covering the floor. An anger like never before filled me as I charged, an unearthly cry erupting from me. Sam turned and began firing at me, but I didn't slow as I sprang up, knocking her to the floor. I pinned her beneath me and began punching her over and over again.

"Stop!" Chip cried, trying to pull me off her. I turned and punched him right in the face. He dropped to the floor, holding his jaw. I breathed heavily before running to Miles. His shuddered breathing was not a good sign.

"Stay with me buddy..." I said, putting my hands on his chest and forcing energy into him. It seemed harder this time, pushing the energy into him. I squeezed my eyes shut in concentration, whimpering as my power stopped.

"No! No, no, no!" I cried, opening my eyes in shock. Miles lay with his eyes closed, blood pooling around him.

"It's not working!" I cried, trying to calm myself. "Why isn't it working?!"

Chip came over, a big ugly bruise on his chin. He kneeled next to me, "Perhaps you've been overusing your power. You know, not giving it time to recharge."

"No! I gotta heal him!" I cried, tears threatening to fall as I put my hands on his chest, pouring my life energy into him. Everything went numb as I forced my energy into him, feeling myself weaken only made me push harder.

"It's working!" Chip cried and I collapsed, breathing ragged breaths. Miles coughed, sitting up. His eyes landed on me and he smiled, "Thanks Jace!"

I groaned, to weakened to respond. Miles eyes widened as he crawled over to me, "What the hell happened?"

"He drained his life energy to heal you." Chip explained, their voices fading in and out.

"What the hell do we do?!" Miles cried and I felt his gentle hands hold my head.

"We need a scientist. We need to force them to help us." Chip said.

"Let's go!" Miles cried and I felt him lift me off the hard ground. My legs and arms dangled as I felt him running, too tired to open my eyes.

"You can make it Jace... I know you can..." Miles pleaded. I groaned again, feeling weaker. All I have to do is close my eyes and sleep. Relax and let unconsciousness set in.

"This way!" Chip cried, and I began relaxing. My whole body seemed to just relax. Calmness settled in as I began breathing softer, my head dropping back.

"We're losing him!" Miles cried, his voice becoming distant. "Jace?! JACE?! JACE!!!"

Everything faded away into nothingness.
