"-is what one scientist said, but I don't believe them." A voice drifted into my subconsciousness and I slowly opened my eyes. It was dark and took my eyes a moment to adjust. I was on the floor, in what seemed to be a storage closest, with Sam standing near the door. She seemed to be talking to herself, that is until I heard Miles voice.
"Miles?" I asked hoarsely. He appeared next to me, a concerned look on his face, "Jace! Oh God, I thought I would never see you again!"
"What about Sam?" I asked, glaring at her. "What was the punch for?"
"Th-the chip inside me m-made me do it." She stuttered. "B-but Miles k-k-kicked ass and saved us."
Miles nodded, "Yeah, Sam said that they stripped you of your healing ability... Is that true?"
"Yeah... I'm no longer like the Wolverine." I joked. "Oh well... Where's Chip?"
A shadow passed over Miles' face, "We don't know. But Aaron's room is right down the hall. We didn't want to leave you here alone and unconscious."
"That's fine. But let's go save Aaron right now." I said, getting to my feet.
"Easy there." Miles said, grabbing my waist to stop me from falling. I smiled at him and straightened myself. Sam opened the door a crack, "A-all clear!"
She opened it wider and we all jogged out, running towards Aaron's room. Miles knew right where it was, practically breaking down the room to enter. We all curiously crept in, scanning the walls and floor. Our eyes widened in fear as we saw Aaron.
He was trapped inside a glass box, connected to wires that send jolts of electricity through his body, each jolt changing his form. Dolphin, bear, seagull, horse. Doctors stood around, taking notes. Anger surged through me, one like never before. Everything seemed to go numb as I charged the closest doctor.
Did I know how to fight? No. Was I extremely pissed off? Yes. My fists pummeled his side, knocking him to be ground. I turned and kicked the next one, hitting him in the balls. He stumbled back in pain, and I threw a punch to his face, breaking his nose. Miles had the same idea, standing next to the controls, trying to turn it off. His knuckles were bloody and his clothes were stained crimson. It wasn't his blood either.
The zapping suddenly ceased as Miles found the switch, Aaron turning into his normal form. His clothes were badly burnt, and some parts of him still twitched with electricity. Miles slammed his fist onto the OPEN button and with a pop and hiss, the glass box's lid opened.
Miles ran over bending over and gently lifting Aaron out. His head was limp and hung over his arm.
"Aaron? Aaron your safe now!" Miles cried, staring at the boy in tears. "C'mon bud, I know your strong. Prove it."
Sam touched my arm, "They-they're coming!"
I turned to Miles, "We need to leave."
He nodded, "Right, right, sorry."
We bolted from the room, charging down the hall. Doctors stepped out, but we merely shoved them aside. Sam reached the elevator, pressing the down button. We sat in awkward silence before the elevator arrived and we best in, startling three doctors who Sam and I knocked out.
Miles hit the B button for basement. I decided against asking him why as we decent. Aaron was still unmoving in Miles' arms, twitching every now and then.
"S-sick bas-bastards." Sam stuttered, leaning against a wall. I couldn't even imagine the pain that most be going through her head. Fighting off the chip.
The elevator doors dinged open and the basement awaited us. We stepped out, looking around. There was old sofas set up with rusty tables. Boxes were strewn about, but other then that it seemed perfect to hide.
Miles set Aaron down on a sofa, looking at us, "I vote staying here the night."
Sam and I agreed, knowing it's our safest option. I pushed a sofa in front of the elevator and stair well, securing our position. The I collapsed on a couch, exhausted.
"Tomorrow, we rescue Chip and Taylor, then go to the Warehouse to get Avery. Finally, we'll go to Chip's place." Miles said, sitting next to Aaron.
"Sounds good..." I murmured, getting comfortable.
"A-Alright then." Sam agreed, laying on a sofa.
I closed my eyes and drifted off, wondering what tomorrow could bring.
