The lights flicked on as I heard someone speak in an amusing manner."Look who we have here."
Trembling I turned to find myself standing before a young man of around twenty. It did not take me time to notice the scar that he had on neck extending towards his chest. I saw him seeing
that I was seeing his scar. He had a smirk on his pale face. Accompanied by him were couple of men who were all masked. I tried to say something but the words were caught in traffic inside my mouth."Did a bit of heroism, eh?" He spoke grimacing.
"Who are you?" I managed to say.
"Ah.You still dont know."
I waited for him to continue. A dozen questions were running in my mind.
He looked at me straight into my eyes so much so that I quivered.
"Rick Hoorah." He said with a sense of pride.
I looked at him waiting for him to say this was a joke but he was serious.
"B-But you are too young to be a kid-"I started saying but was stopped midway.
"I am too young to be the head of criminals? Too young to organise this game?Yeah?" He paused looking at me.
I nodded in agreement. How could he just be the main kidnapper? How could all these other men which were grown-ups follow him? It was too much.
"My father was the head earlier. Great man he was. Even the hardest and toughest criminal feared him. But then..." He trailed off as if deciding whether to continue telling me or not.
I waited for him intently to continue.
"But then cops found his base. They came and fired upon them. He was killed along with many of his men." He had a melonchaly expression on his face as if he was thinking of those bitter memories. "As soon as I turned eighteen, I was made their head."
He paused, took a huge breath, spread out his arms and spoke in a proud voice, "And here I am. I took care of this gang and made it a point to maintain the glory of the gang as it was during dad's time."
I noticed how he choked on the word 'dad'."Oh." It seemed a clear reason enough. But I was feeling pity for this boy. Wait, did I just say that I was feeling pity for a gangster's son who was now a full-fledged kidnapper. Criminals are meant to be caught and punished, aren't they? But still..whatever.
"How did you come here?" I blurted out. Even he looked surprised at my question. Who would'nt be?A criminal just told me about his past and I freaking ask him how you entered this room.
But this was not my fault. When the lights had switched on, the first thing that had crossed my mind was how did somebody appeared from nowhere .I didn't see anybody climbing down the staircase. Harris had just left and bang! The kidnappers are here from nowhere.
"You and your curiosity." He said smiling. He pointed towards the curtain which I had not seen until now and said, "Another entrance to here from behind the curtain."
I wondered if any other sixteen year old girl had talked to a kidnapper like this. Provided that the kidnapper himself was a twenty year old. I guess no.
"Umm..another question. What is this game I and others are a part of? Like what's the point of this?" I asked meekingly.
He looked at me grinning. "You don't want to know."
"Fine. Don't tell but I saved Harris. Now this game is over. We are free to go, right?" I asked in a matter-of-factedly manner.
He looked at me like I had a terrible fate and luck. He spoke as if he was truly sorry for what would happen next and smirked, "Not right. The game was just a way to capture you."
