"Mom, please keep the make-up minimum," I told my mom or ordered maybe, as I sat on the chair facing the mirror."Don't worry sweetie. Just keep your eyes closed and sit still," my mom replied beaming.
I did as I was told.
In case I have not mentioned earlier, my mother is a beauty expert. She can do magic in this work.My mother had taken the responsibility of getting me ready for the movie tonight.
Her exact words were, "Darling, you are eighteen now and you are going outside for the movie. You NEED to look beautiful. Now,don't say no, I will make you ready."
You see I did not have a choice, so I sat quietly, agreed politely. I smiled to myself. Katy Perry's ROAR is just awesome. This particular line fits my situation so well.
"Your boyfriend gave you a nice dress. Adorable he is, isn't he?" my mom teased me as she applied powder on my face.
"Finnick is not my boyfriend!" I said under my breath with eyes still closed.
How can she say this even?
Whatever moments we had the previous night were over by the next morning. He himself said he didn't mean anything. It was stupid of me only to believe his words when he was drunk.
"Oh dear, don't get upset now. He comes at midnight to wish and gifts you a dress and you say he was not your boyfriend. And now he will come to pick you for the movie. Come on, Andrea. Don't be shy. Accept it," my mom chuckled to herself.
I opened my eyes instantly and sat upright.
Surely, I didn't tell my mom about his visit last night. But yeah, I told about the present he gave this morning.
I bit my tongue as I had lied to my mom. "How do you know he came at midnight?"
She told me to shut down my eyes and I saw her picking a glittery eye-liner. I closed my eyes and she replied while applying the eye-liner,"We have Nöel in our house, remember? There were voices coming from your room. And I am pretty sure, I saw Finnick climbing down your balcony this morning."
I felt my cheeks heaten up and told her what a great detective she is."But I assure you he is not my boyfriend. He was at a party and was returning home when he just decided to wish me. He was drunk so I asked him to sleep here only. And everybody gives presents on birthdays, don't they?" I added after a few seconds.
She just said, "Smile"
"Wh-What", I asked feeling confused. Why was she suddenly asking to smile?
"Sweetie, I have to apply the blusher, so just smile," my mom replied.
I obeyed carefully and felt her apply the blusher around my cheeks and slowly merging it around my neck and face.
She was now about to apply lipstick. "So, Finnick, he is an actor."
I did not know whether she was asking or was simply stating it. So, I just nodded my head.
"Phew.Your make-up is done." I was about to open my eyes to see myself but my mom hastily added, "Don't open your eyes yet. I will tell you when to."
Now my mom proceeded to my hair. She combed my golden locks and let me tell you I was getting embarrassed.
"Mom, I will not keep my hair open. Just put some clutcher or something," I said in a firm tone.
"But it will no-", I stopped her before she could complete her sentence and said in a determined voice,"Mom please. Let me have at least this in my own way."
She considered this and allowed me. I quickly put on a peach-coloured clutcher.
The next thing was what I was most excited about.
I wore the dress Finnick gave me. It was a strapless peach coloured dress which came above my knee. It was a really short dress. I had in fact never worn such a short dress before. I decided to wear a coloured necklace along with it. After wearing my nude pumps, I looked at myself in the mirror.
What I saw in the mirror took my breath away. It was a completely different person in the mirror. Where was the stupid girl wearing t-shirts and all? I looked simple but elegent.
When my mother saw me, her surprise was evident. She stood there with her mouth open."Oh my god! You look beautiful," saying this, she kissed me on the cheeks.
The door bell rang and I knew who it was. Finnick.
Before I went to open the door, I whispered to my mom,"Thanks for everything mom. Love you. Bye."
I couldn't stop thinking how this night will be. I was really excited!
Finnick's reaction was really uncalled for.
"Andrea, you look absolutely breathtaking. You sure cut a fine figure. Any guy would fall for your beauty," he said softly as we walked to the movie theatre hand-in-hand.
His hand was tightly clenched around mine. I could not help thinking of the lyrics of YOU BELONG WITH ME of Taylor Swift.
.....Walking down the street with you in your worn out jeans
I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be...
....You belong with me....Yeah.
Finnick belongs with me.
I smiled.
Some songs fit so perfectly with our situations.
