Liam and top of my class

I closed the door, just after he turned round the hall corner, and was bombarded with questions from Ashley

"How are you now? What was he like? What happened? Are you going to tell me what happened? Jay"

I just walked to my bed and told answers "I'm a lot better now. He was nice and really gentle. He got me all fixed up and well again"

"Want to go see your classrooms? Before you get anymore lovesick for him"

"What?" I turned shocked more than ever

"Oh come on I know you like him"

"I do not and anyway you said to take me to my classrooms" I picked up my timetable and got my keys before pulling Ashley out of the room. First stop...Medical Bay. Going back to the place I just came from...Great.

We pushed open the door and Bones came into the room "Hi, done something wrong Jessica"

"Hi. No not ye..." I was walking over to him to show him my timetable but tripped over a bed. I was surprised I didn't hit the floor then realised something was under my arms. It pulled me up and smiled. Bones had caught me "I take back that no"

"You have to be careful Jessica"

"I am...erm...is this where the nurses go tomorrow?"

"Yea" I couldn't belive that my new life started tomorrow

"Jay come on we have to find your other lessons" And with that she took my arm and pulled me out into the cool breeze and the smell of pine cones filled my head.

We came back late into the night and slept. It was my first day being a nurse tomorrow. I woke up to an annoying buzzing by my side. Why did I ever pick that alarm clock? I went to the bathroom to get ready for my first day. I had a red dress and black boots. I held my cap whilst I brushed my hair into a braid and put my makeup on. I kissed Ashley on her forhead and let her sleep because I knew she had to leave that day. I walked over to Medical and was given my orders for the day. I was so hooked up in my work I didn't notice my Commander come behind me "Miss Carino"

"Argh...yes Commander Owens"

"I would like to congratulate you that you are top of my class. Even higher than Liam. I will tell Doctor McCoy of your achivement. Good work" She's going to tell Bones. Why would she tell Bones? The bell rang for the end of all lessons and everyone but me and another student left. I went to walk out the door but dropped all my stuff. "Here I'll help". A boy knealt down to help me

"Thanks" He helped me to stand up before insisting he carried my things back to my block. He was nice and helpful. "I'm Liam Pike"

"I'm Jessica Carino" We talked all the way back to my block. Before he turned to leave he put my things on a nearby table and pushed me against the nearest wall "Listen Carino, what do you think you're playing at? I'm the smartest in that class and you're not going to make me second best. You will now on get bad grades and let me be top of the class...you hear me Carino?" I nodded not sure what was going on and trying to breathe, his arm was pushed up around my neck "I'll be top of the class and you will make me that. I don't care if Owens tells McCoy what the hell will he do? Come to save the princess? Rescue you because belive me he won't. Now don't tell anyone about this or they will get as hurt as you are" And with that he pushed my head into the wall hard and walked off.

I walked into my room and saw two packed bags on Ashley's bed, seconds later she came out of the bathroom "Oh Jay, I just got a phone call. The guy picking me up is already here" Her eyes were welling up and she was walking slowly towards me.

"Oh...erm...well...let's get you down...don't want to miss your ride back"

"Jay you're fidgeting. You're nervous. Don't be I'll write everyday and call" I finally noticed I was fidgeting, I always do when I'm nervous. I picked up one of her bags up and carried it all the way to the car waiting before turning to a hug "I don't want you to leave me here Ashley all on my own" I broke away from her hug tears running down my face. She was crying more than me but still managed to look good. "Goodbye Jay I'll see you in two weeks"

"Goodbye Ash" She turned and got in the car waiting for her. They drove away leaving me standing on my own at the main gate crying. I decided to get some coffee, so I walked to Latte talk about and sat down at the table in the corner. When my drink arrived someone in a blue jumper sat across from me. "Hello Jessica are you ok"

"Hello Bones. Yea I'm fine for now. You having anything?"

"No I came to talk to you about what happened two days ago"

"Go on" I was definatly not ready for what was to come

"Ok...where to begin..." He breathed in getting nervous which started me fidgeting "You were poisoned and it took over your whole body. Not being able to see, walk or breathe" He stopped to look at me drinking my hot chocolate "You're fidgeting again you did that at Med Bay. You did that when Ashley said she was going to go" He looked at my eyes "You've been crying recently why?"

"Ashley isn't here she's gone home. She's coming back though in two weeks" I finished my drink and got up "Come on we have to go back. It's getting late" I started to got to the counter to pay when Bones went infront of me to get a coffee.He was given it and paid for both his drink and mine.

I was shocked but only talked when we got outside"You didn't need to do that. I could have paid"

"And I was being kind am I allowed to be" He looked at me and smiled "Well here is your block I'll see you later hopefully not in Med Bay. So...erm...er...bye then" He turned and walked off as I went into my room. I started up my PADD and saw I had mail. A real letter.

I got to the mail room and found my box and unlocked it. I reached in and found my letter

Jessica Carino with an Atlanta postage stamp. It was from home. I opened it and was unaware I was reading aloud:

"My sweetest Jess,

                                      I found your note by my bedside. I understand why you didn't wake me. I fear I am near the end of my life but that won't stop letting you persue your lifetime dreams of becoming a nurse at Starfleet. I sure hope you do.

I am now at the hospital. I couldn't help it they took me in my sleep. Your mother and the doctors belive it is the best for me. Ha! What do they know? They of course don't know that YOU are the best for me.

My nurses will notify you when they belive I will go. I excpect my little Jay to come rushing here as fast as you can. And when you do come, I want to know everything you've been up to:

Lucy has started her Freshman year in Atlanta. I will still only understand English school systems. But it won't be long until she joins you at the academy, won't that be a joy. She loves xinolinguistics and is started to speak diffrent languages to us at home.
