Ignorance Is Bliss

CLEO'S HEART THUMPED AGAINST HER CHEST as she waited for the door she had just knocked on to open. With the mounting tension between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-do, and the fact that Daniel Larusso had just tried to get Cobra Kai kicked out of their building, coming here was dangerous for her. So dangerous, she feared that her grandfather would make her face some very serious consequences.

... but she was willing to accept them, if it meant finding her mother.

"Hi—" Amanda Larusso's eyes looked as if they were about to pop out of her head upon seeing the girl, understandably so, her presence was probably not at all expected. "Can I help you?"

She became sharper now, her tone full of something along the lines of disgust.

"I need to speak to Mr. Larusso, urgently." Cleo didn't care the woman before her didn't like her, nothing else mattered but her trying to find her mom.

"Seeing as your family is full of raging psychos, I don't think that's the best idea." Amanda's words weren't meant to be cruel at all, Cleo could see that now, she was just trying to protect her family.

Oh how she wished someone would have protected her better.

"Honey, who is it?" Daniel's voice came from not far, his wife turning to see if he was in view.

"Someone that was just leaving!" The woman replied back, trying to shut the door.

"No! Please—" Cleo stuck her foot in the door, holding back all her emotions. "I'm putting my pride aside today to come talk to him because... because I think he might know my mother, and... I want to know her too."

Amanda's face softened, and her hand on the door loosened as Daniel's head poked out beside her.

"What would I know about your mother?" He questioned, both confused and on edge about the girl in front of her.

"Her name is Giulia Polizzo, I think you lived in the same apartment complex as her a long time ago—"

"Giulia? Your mother is Giulia—..." Daniel's eyes widened, and softened all at once.

"I'll uhm—... i'll let you two talk." Amanda concluded, seeing that she would probably not be the best help in this conversation. Still, she gave her husband a we'll talk about this later look, and walked off into the house.

"You know her?" Cleo's heart was beating faster now, she couldn't believe it.

"Giulia was my first and best friend when I moved here, reminded me of all the girls from back home." Daniel smiled at the girl, like she'd never seen him smile before... then, it sort of just faded. "Her and I lost contact years ago, even before Sam was born, before I even met Amanda."

"Oh." Now, the Harper girls heart felt like it was shattering into dozens of tiny pieces.

"I left South Seas before her and we still kept in touch but when her father died—.." the realization hit Daniel. "When your grandfather died she kind of fell off the face of the earth."
