Although things were incredibly difficult for Louis, he was admittedly coping better than he thought he would. Taking care of his mum and going to appointments with her took up a large part of his time, he made sure to take the time to focus on himself as well.

Louis went out with friends a lot, and while he enjoyed it nothing helped more than pouring his heart into writing music. He found that writing not only took his mind off his mum, but also lingering questions he was not quite ready to face.

As much as he loved his mum, it was not ideal to have to drive so far to take her to appointments. It was evening now, and by the time Louis had entered his flat he was pretty exhausted.

Louis sighed as he looked around the flat. Having been intended to be a temporary arrangement, it lacked character and was mostly bare aside from some furniture. Even after the chaos from the hiatus, something that was only one of many things that had changed Louis' life lately, things had still been too chaotic for him to get around to decorating.

Tonight was not the time to feel bad about his flat however, and he would just have to settle on having only gone through a few boxes. For the time being, Louis dumped his things on the small dining table in the corner and sat down on the sofa. He picked up the remote off of the end table and flipped through a few channels, not necessarily paying full attention to what was on due to being mostly lost in thought.

It crossed his mind that it was the end of June, and he could not believe it was nearly July. Freddie was what, five months old now? He probably needed to make some time to visit him. Then again he needed to finish some chords for a project he was trying, but that also was not at the top of his priorities.

Louis was snapped out of his thoughts when his phone began to ring. He quickly turned off the TV, and then began to panic when he could not find his phone until he realized it was still on the table.

When he retrieved his phone, Louis was greeted with Harry's caller id, and his heart practically skipped a beat as he sat back down on the sofa to answer it.

"Hello?" Louis said.

"Hey uh, I know it's been a while since we called and you've probably been busy but uh, how have you been? I didn't really get a chance to ask since you found out about your mum," Harry said.

"Well you know," Louis started, sighing. "Just trying to keep busy really."

"How's your mum?"

"She's doing alright, mentally speaking I suppose, I don't think she completely lets on how bad it is some days. She has a lot of good days though, but still plenty of bad ones," Louis said.

"Well, I don't want to take away from any time you're needing to spend with her," said Harry, "but uh, I have a bit of a break between filming at the moment, and I was going to be flying back out to the UK anyway and uh, I didn't know if you wanted to go and do something."

Louis could barely hold back his excitement. "Yeah that'd be great Harry."

"Okay, I have to stay and sort a couple things out, but I'm supposed to fly out Saturday," Harry said.

"Do you need me to pick you up from the airport?" Louis asked.

"That's fine, just don't risk your contract Louis," Harry replied.

"Nothing to be risked as long as Simon and the rest of the public don't know anything," Louis said, sarcasm lacing his words.

Harry laughed, causing Louis to grin. "Well then. I'll see you Saturday Louis."

"See you then Harry," Louis said.

And then the phone call was over, and even though it was short and Louis still had a lot of doubts he was feeling better and less empty than he had been. Things were still kind of awkward, and he knew he was going to have to confront the weird feelings inside every time Harry came up in his mind, but even in his ignorance and his mum being sick he felt a little at ease.
