The world seemed to blur for a second — tires screeched, the air shifted with panic, and Jungkook stood frozen in the middle of the crosswalk, eyes wide, breath caught in his throat.

And then—

“Kookie!”

A sudden weight slammed into him, arms wrapping tightly around his waist as he was thrown backward. His body hit the pavement with a thud, daikon rolling from the brown paper bag, bouncing slightly before coming to rest by the curb.

The deafening sound of impact followed.

The car didn’t stop. It sped off into the distance, vanishing into traffic as people nearby screamed in shock. Jungkook blinked rapidly, heart pounding in his ears. He pushed himself up slightly from the pavement, dust clinging to his hands, and turned to look.

There, lying in the middle of the road, blood slowly spreading on the asphalt beneath him…

“Bogum?”

Time seemed to stop. Jungkook’s eyes widened as he recognized the figure, bruised and bloodied, clothes torn at the elbow and knee. Bogum’s face twisted with pain, yet the moment his eyes found Jungkook’s, a soft, relieved smile appeared.

People rushed forward.

“Someone call an ambulance!”

“Oh my God—he just saved that boy!”

A kind older man knelt beside Jungkook and gently handed him the now-dusty daikon. “You dropped this, son,” he said kindly. Jungkook took it with a trembling hand, barely hearing the words.

Another person helped Bogum sit up, his legs trembling beneath him, blood trickling down from his arm. Yet even in his state, Bogum turned his attention back to Jungkook.

“Kookie,” he whispered hoarsely. “Are you okay? Did… did it hurt you?”

Jungkook’s heart skipped. Why is he asking about me? He’s the one who—

“I… I’m fine,” Jungkook replied automatically, voice shaking. Then his gaze dropped to Bogum’s injuries, and the reality struck him like lightning. “Oh my god—Bogum—your leg, your arm—you’re bleeding—”

Bogum winced slightly, trying to stand. “I’m okay. Just… needed to make sure you weren’t hurt. That’s all that matters.”

“Shut up!” Jungkook’s voice cracked, a mix of frustration and disbelief. “You’re not okay! You need a hospital, right now.”

Without wasting another second, Jungkook fumbled with his phone, fingers still trembling as he dialed emergency services.

A woman gently helped Bogum stay seated as sirens echoed faintly in the distance.

Jungkook glanced at Bogum again — the strange storm of emotions brewing inside him. Guilt. Confusion. Concern.

AT THE HOSPITAL

The sterile scent of antiseptic filled Jungkook’s lungs as he sat in the hospital corridor, fingers twitching anxiously on his lap. His phone sat untouched beside him, screen dark. The sound of beeping monitors and muffled voices from nearby rooms blurred into background noise. His mind kept replaying the moment — the sudden shove, the screech of tires, Bogum’s body crashing to the asphalt.
