Fruit Basket is an anime about a girl named Tohru Honda, she lived with her mother until her mother had a a car accident. Then after Tohru's mothers death she had lived with her grandpa. But now her grandpa had to make some renovations to make the house bigger for his daughters family to come and live with him. Now Tohru lives in a tent in a forest. As she was walking to school she sees a house nearby. She looks at rocks painted like the 12 animals of the zodiac infront of the house. Then a man named Shigore comes out. Also a guy named Yuki Soma, the prince of Tohru's school. Yuki Soma happened to live in that house with Shigore. Yuki offers to walk to school with Tohru, after school Yuki and Shigore are walking home and then Yuki sees a tent. He learns that Tohru lives in the tent. Shigore starts laughing. After seeing Tohru living in a tent Yuki and Shigore take her inside their house, Shigore warns her of landslides, animals, and occasional werido walking around. But then Tohru comes down with a fever. Then all of a sudden a landslide buries Tohru's tent with her mothers picture under the landslide. Shigore lets Tohru sleep in their home for the night while she has a fever.
