Few weeks later
It's past midnight, home is dead silent. Everyone is in a deep slumber except our taetae who is keep twisting and turning on the mattress.
Tae stirs in bed. Her tummy rumbles, a strange, stubborn rumble that demands attention.
She is six months pregnant, and lately, her cravings hit hard and fast. Tonight, it's something spicy, something delicious, something she can't quite name.
She tries to ignore it, pulling the soft blanket closer, but the craving is a tiny, forceful voice in her head. "Just a little longer" she whispers to herself, but her mouth waters.
She glances at Kook, who sleeps soundly beside her. He looks so peaceful, his breathing even and deep. "He works so hard," she thinks.
Waking him feels wrong,
but the craving is now a loud roar. She gently pokes his arm. Nothing. She pokes again, a little harder."Hubby" she whispers, her voice a soft hum in the quiet room.
Kook groans, a low, sleepy sound. His eyes flutter open, blinking against the faint moonlight filtering through the curtains. "Hmm? What is it, my love?" he murmurs, still half-asleep.
"Hubby" Tae says again, her voice a little whiny now. "I... I need something."
He slowly sits up, rubbing his eyes. "What do you need, sweetheart? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?" His sleepiness vanishes instantly, replaced by concern.
"Yes, we're fine" Tae assures him, a small blush rising on her cheeks. "It's just... I'm craving something."
Kook sighs, a soft chuckle escaping him. "A craving, in the middle of the night?" He smiles, already swinging his legs out of bed. "Okay, let's go." He's a good husband, always ready for her needs.
Downstairs, the house is dark and quiet. Kook switches on the kitchen lights, and the room floods with a warm glow.
He guides Tae to the kitchen counter, carefully lifting her to sit there. "You stay right here" he says, his voice gentle. He begins opening cabinets.
"Do you want some crisps? Or something sweet?" Kook asks, peering into a high cabinet. "We have mango pickle, very spicy. Or maybe your favourite tamarind?"
He lists off options, his head tilted, trying to guess. Tae shakes her head at each suggestion, her pout deepening. "No...no, not that."
Kook closes a cabinet, turning to face her. "Tell me, my heart. What is it?"
Tae lets out a small whine, like a child. "Barbeque!" she demands, her eyes suddenly bright.Kook blinks. "Barbeque?" He scratches his head. "Baby, we don't have the ingredients for barbeque at home. Not right now."
Tae's lower lip trembles. She looks exactly like a kid, who is demanding candies and Kook's heart melts instantly. "But I want it from that restaurant," she insists, her voice soft but firm. "The one you took me to last week."
Kook frowns, glancing at the clock over the microwave. It reads 1:30 AM. "It's past midnight, baby. The restaurant must be closed," he says gently, trying to be reasonable.
Tae pouts harder, her eyes wide and glistening. He can't resist that look. How can he hurt her feelings when she looks so adorable?
"Okay," Kook says, a smile spreading across his face. "First, let's get you changed. You can't go outside just in my T-shirt."
Tae's eyes sparkle like diamonds at the thought of them going out. Kook carefully lifts her from the counter, carrying her to their bedroom.
He helps her into some soft, comfortable trousers, and she slips her feet into her cozy, furry bunny slippers.
