*Hotch's POV*

Dear diary,

As much as I hate to say it... I love Emily Prentiss. I love the way she talks and walks and dresses. She is an amazing agent and an outstanding mother to her almost two and a half year old daughter Y/N. Y/N's father was unwilling to assist Emily from the moment she found out she was pregnant and committed suicide a few months later. Although she was heart broken, Prentiss wanted to keep her pregnancy and carried to full term a healthy baby girl with (your skin color) skin, (your eye color) eyes, and (your hair color/texture) hair that was long and healthy for her age. Y/N is an absolute sweetheart and gets along with just about everyone. Emily says Y/N loves me the most. I think that if what Emily says is true, Y/N only likes me because she can climb all over me and I spoil her and she has Jack to play with her from time to time. But, I don't think Y/N really likes *me*...

Enough rambling on my part... I'm in a predicament at the moment. Emily has some trouble right now with a man named Ian Doyle from her days as a spy and he's harming people to get to her. She wants to protect his son Declan but it's proving to be more difficult than we had expected. The team had been allowed to help after pleading with Prentiss about her situation. She wants it to be easier on us. So, she called myself and Jennifer Jareau into a private meeting while Y/N was at daycare and we had time off.

*flashback to the meeting*

"JJ, Aaron, thank you for getting here on such short notice... As you know, this Ian Doyle case is a tough one to crack... he's making threats and all we want is to make sure Declan is safe. I'm a threat to him. He's after me. We can't have that. I have a plan." I raised an inquiring eyebrow suggesting to her that I wanted to hear more. "I need to fake my death." She said quieter that her prior sentences, "Excuse me??" JJ added in, "I know it sounds crazy. But, maybe it's just crazy enough to work." "Emily— you can't.. what about Y/N?? She's so little... she needs you Emily." I hoped she would listen. This is her two year old we're talking about. She wouldn't understand. "Yeah, Em— I'm not so sure about this... those are some really big feelings to a really small child. Pen has watched her before when we go on cases.. you know she cries for you— if she can never see you again— Emily please..." "This is best for Y/N. She may not even remember I existed. And, maybe if you guys can capture Doyle afterwards, maybe I can come back. I don't want to miss my daughter growing up. But, I'd rather her have the chance to do so. Please guys. I need this. Y/N needs this." She begged and pleaded. I just couldn't say no. As much as I might've wanted to. I want to give Y/N the best shot she has at a good life. And if this is the way to do it... so be it. "Fine. What do we have to do?" Emily explained the whole plan and reminded us throughout, "The team cannot know."

To my surprise, Prentiss asked me to take in Y/N. I reminded her that I'm a mess of a father and know nothing about raising a daughter. To which Emily responded with, "Come on, Hotch. You're a great dad. Jack loves you so much and Y/N listens to you. That's saying a lot for a two year old. She's already mostly potty trained... Oh! And! Jack keeps saying he wants a little sister! This can be his opportunity!" She tricked me with my own son. "Fine. You owe me, big time." "I know, I know" she thanked the both of us and we saw our way out.

*Present time*

Today is the big day. The day Emily Prentiss will fake her death.
