Over the next few weeks the gang planned and fantasized over the many possibilities at working at the Marin resort. The day came where the teachers dropped them off at the local airport in the school's mini bus. It was a quick stop and drop so everyone hauled their bags out of the bus. Some had more than others. Viola had a backpack and a sturdy suitcase and pillow. Drake had only a backpack for the two weeks and Amanda had two suitcases and a duffle bag.
The airport was small and only carried three airlines. They had a small restaurant and a small stall with stuffed kangaroos. Amanda and Lissa raced to the boarding checks and grabbed Viola on the way. Erica and Lucy were looking at all the strange people about the airport and taking pictures.
We all filed into the boarding pass area, we gave our information to Lissa to sort out and waited behind the counter. A petite women with short movie style hair fresh with layers of make up stared at everyone. Her smile looked fake and her eyes tried to say kill me.
"Hello welcome to Alias Air. Can i have your boarding passes today and if you have anything to announce please do so now" She said with a tired tone. She had a pink scarf tied around her neck.
Austin whispered to Viola; "I have a bomb i need to situate in your airplane hanger so i can not announce it presently"
Viola chuckled and laid her suitcase onto the bag area. The lady checked the passes and gave them back to Lissa and the bags went through into the building with a whoosh sound. Drake and Trix went off to get some strong coffee and Amanda decided to buy some lollies to share. Viola sat down in a seat next to Colin and Erica.
Colin had a backpack on his shoulders and he still looked half asleep. Viola nudged him.
"Are you ready?" Viola asked Colin tugging on his zippers on his backpack.
Colin groaned a little and answered "Its too early to fly above the earth"
"Oh come on its an adventure!" Viola answered and Amanda rushed up to her and offered a lolly. Erica and Lucy had gone and ordered triple strength coffees and Drake and Trix were sipping theirs.
"Gate 2 boarding to Sydney has been delayed for another two hours. Sorry for any inconvenience and could the St Scott's kids come to the flight check-in area. " A old lady's voice came over the loud speaker.
We all looked confused but carried ourselves and our things to the flight check-in. To get there they had to grow through security. Viola hated security. The security people thought everyone was going to blow up something. Viola knew she couldn't blame them for it.
They got to the security and a large beer- bellied man with a lack of hair sighed as everyone piled their bags into trays and moved them along the conveyor belt. When the scanner got to Clara's bag the monitor blared a cruel sound.
"Unidentified item! Stay right there young lady" The man pointed his portable scanner at Clara. We all stared at Clara. She was surprisingly positive.
"Oooo" Clara smiled and laughed.
Lissa and Kate gave her a disapproving nod jokingly.
"Clara, how dare you affect our country's safety" Drake says. The security man gave him a disapproving frown. Drake backed away and Amanda giggled at him.
The man unzipped Clara's pink suitcase and inside he found a pair of scissors in her bag. Viola gave Clara a curious look.
"These are very dangerous young lady, these will be of immediate termination" Beer belly held the scissors as close to her face as possible.
"They're nail scissors! Seriously" Clara protested. The man stared at us all as if we were insignificant little worms. He threw them straight in the bin.
"Go through again" he yelled at Clara. We all eventually passed though the scanner and as we went we have shakes of the head to the man.
"Not good enough mate" Colin said to him and we headed straight to the flight check-in. Beer-belly was taken back by us and Viola thought he looked pretty shamed. Viola smiled to herself.
We walked towards the flight check in and a man with greased back hair in a suit was waiting.
Clara stared at him and she whispered to Viola "Im sure he has a nice back"
"Hi since your flight was delayed would you mind doing some jobs for us? Youll get paid of course." He gave us a questioning glance.
Colin stepped forward. "yes" We all glanced at Colin and looked at him. "Yes, we will."
"Ok then" the flight attendant said.
