"Oi Yeager! Shut the hell up already!" Jean complained. Eren's conversation with Connie had begun to grow rather loudly, sparking a nerve of annoyance in Jean.
"Why don't you, horseface!" The brunet snapped back defensively.
"Alright, alright. That's enough you two." Mr. Hannes broke in, preventing yet another dispute between the two boys.Armin let out a sigh as he looked back down to the book in his hands, not surprised on how easily they can begin to fight. They were only in their second month of their freshman year and yet Eren and Jean have managed to get at least five detentions, Armin gave up on keeping count after the fifth.
But what caught the blonde's attention was when a small figure walked into the room. His eyes lit up when he realized it was none other than Annie Leonhardt. She was coming in 15 minutes late, yet Hannes wasn't even paying enough attention to notice, as usual.
Most of the seats were taken except the one beside Armin. He felt the heat rise to his face as he noticed her walking over to him. His heart rate picked up as she sat down in the seat next to him, dropping her bag loudly to lean against the desk, not even sparing a glance in his direction.
Whenever he saw her, he couldn't help but feel intimidated. She didn't speak much, nor pay attention to many things in the school, but because of her different approach on things he couldn't help but feel intrigued by her.
"G-Good morning Annie." He greeted her with a nervous smile.
"Hn." She grunted in acknowledgement, still not looking at him. She was tired, waking up late causing her to rush to school and now all she wanted was peace and quiet.
"How are you?" Armin asked, trying to start a conversation. He's rarely spoken to her, but he would do anything to be able to talk to her more.
"Terrible." Annie replied bluntly. Why was he talking to her? Couldn't he tell she wanted to be left alone?
He blinked in surprise at her blunt response yet didn't falter. His heart was still racing in his chest but he kept the kind smile on his lips.
"Why's that? I noticed you came in late so that probably-"
"Is it any of your business?" She turned and fully faced him, a steady glared aimed at him.
It suddenly became obvious to him that she was tired, her eyes and expression showed it. "S-Sorry." The boy said quickly, not meaning to annoy her.
She simply turned back and stared blankly into space. He decided that it would be best to leave her alone, since it was apparent that she didn't want to speak.
Armin took the moment to gaze upon her, she was wearing her usual white hoodie and loose jeans with her hair up in a casual bun. Most people wouldn't care for it, but to Armin she was the most beautiful girl he's ever seen.
Annie was new to the school. She didn't talk to anyone besides Reiner and Bertholdt who explained that they used to go to school with her awhile back. They said that she moved here during the summer but nobody knows why, she just wouldn't answer when Reiner asked.
Armin assumed that she didn't want to move here based on her lack of effort to make friends or participate in anything. She had been cold and mysterious ever since the first day, and every day after he couldn't help but try to reach out to her whenever he could. Yet only to receive a glare or empty response in the end.
The bell rang signaling that homeroom was over and for everyone to head to their first period class. Luckily for Armin, he shared that class with the shorter blonde. He put the forgotten book in his hands into his bag and swung the bag over his shoulder. Annie picked up hers as well and headed out of the room with Armin not far behind after saying goodbye to his friends.
Once Armin entered the room he saw Annie already in her seat in back that was beside a window, with her chin resting on her hand as she gazed out the window aimlessly. Armin went to sit in his seat that was in the front of the room. He couldn't help but glance back at her, looking at how her eyes held nothing yet so much at the same time. He knew that he was determined to find out what hid behind it, no matter what. He was snapped out of his thoughts at the sound of the bell signaling the beginning of first period. Turning his attention to the front of the class as his teacher walked in and begun to introduce a new lesson about algebra. However instead of his mind being focused on the lesson at hand, his thoughts were captivated by the girl who built up a barrier between her and everyone else. And he was determined to brake it.
