The song for this chapter is I'm Yours by Jason Mraz(:
*Camille's POV*
"The next assignment is going to require you write a 10 page essay on the economics of small businesses. Your outline will be due this Friday and the essay will be due the Monday after next." I mentally rolled my eyes and rested my head on my right hand as I wrote in my planner with my left. I started writing song lyrics on the fresh paper to distract myself from my irritating, unexciting professor and started counting down the minutes until I got out of the stupid class.
In the middle of his spiel, the class phone rang and my professor, Mr. Malsbary, walked slowly over to answer it. His eyes averted to me as he spoke into the phone and a chill ran through me. "Yes, she's in here... Alright, I'll send her down," he finished. "Camille." I sat up straighter and focused my attention, for once in this class, on my teacher. "Apparently there's some sort of family emergency so you're dismissed from class for today."
I nodded and quickly gathered my books into my arms, grabbed my over-the-shoulder bag and rushed out. My shoes clicked as I crossed the room and sprinting down the building steps, not bothering to take the elevator. I sprinted down the walkway to where my car was parked and dialed my dads phone number.
"Dad? Is everything okay?" I asked, trying to sound not to freak out just yet.
"Yeah, everything's fine. I was just looking at plans for the new outdoor pool. How are you?" I was utterly confused.
"Oh, um, I'm good. I'll talk to you really soon, Dad, okay?"
"Is everything alright?"
"Yeah, just checking in."
"Aren't you supposed to be in class?" he wondered.
"Long story."
"Okay, tell me another time. Love you."
"Love you, too." I hung up and sat in my car in absolute awe. What the hell? What "family emergency" would neither I, nor my father, know about? I leaned against my window and started the car, pulling out of the parking space and heading towards my apartment. Mr. Malsbury said I'm excused from classes, right? I might as well go home to figure things out, right? I drove, contemplating the situation, when my phone started buzzing. I answered without checking the caller.
"Hello?" I said, still a bit frazzled.
"Hey... are you okay?" Zayn's calm, pretty voice floated into my ear.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I just got called out of class and I have no idea why. I heard it was a family but I called my dad and he said there's nothi-"
"I'm the family emergency."
I nearly fainted right then and there. "What?"
"It was me. I called and got you out of class because I wanted to talk to you. Where can we meet?"
"Dammit, Zayn!" I yelled, slamming my hand on the steering wheel. "You can't just call me, get me out of class, and scare me half to death by telling me I have a family emergency? Do you have any idea have freaked I was?"
"Yeah, I guess. But you won't be too mad at me in a few minutes. Can you come meet me at Now and Zen?
I sat silently, thinking it over in my head. I was pretty pissed, but it was one of those things that wasn't worth letting boil over forever, so I just let it go. "Yes." I hissed. "I'll be there in twenty minutes."
"Awesome. Can you bring your Marilyn Monroe script?"
"Yeah. I have it with me."
"Okay, good." I was about to hang up when he caught me before I could. "Wait, Camille."
