*Zayn’s POV*
I stepped off the plane as the doors opened. I too no time in waiting and hurried down the expanse of the skywalk. My luggage weighed down my arms as I jogged to the other side where the skywalk opened up into the airport. I slowed down as I arrived at the mouth of the opening and carried myself a few feet into the airport. I dropped my things at my side and inhaled a deep breath, relieved that I had finally arrived.
My hand ran through my hair a couple times as I looked around the busy airport. People walked by about their business which took me sort of by surprise. Usually when I arrived at airports, I was swarmed by fans, but for some unknown reason, not this time. I wasn’t even acknowledged by passerby.
My eyes scanned the area intensely, searching for the one thing my mind was set on finding, but no matter where I looked, I couldn’t find her. She wasn’t here.
She said she’d be here, I thought to myself. Why isn’t she here?
I felt my heart beating in my chest and all throughout my body as I started thinking about the worst case scenarios. Was she not here yet? Could she just not see me? Did she not plan on coming at all? The thought of her not keeping her word to me left me feeling empty and I grew increasingly nervous that she’d actually stood me up. She had never once broken a promise to me so I didn’t understand how she could now. I’d come all this way...
“Zayn!”
My eyes widened when I heard a familiar voice pronounce my name with the most magnificent resonance I’d ever heard. But it was not just any voice; it was the most charming, exquisite, heart-throbbing, sound in all of existence; the voice I could pinpoint at any place or time, regardless of the circumstances.
“Camille!” I called back, searching frantically through the crowd for her. I wanted to see her... I needed to see her.
“Zayn!” she said again, but I still couldn’t spot her. Perhaps I was just imagining things. Maybe I’d only invented the sound in my head so I wouldn’t be so disappointed in her not showing up.
That was... until I finally saw her.
She stepped into view as several people walked past her, but they didn’t matter because all I could SEE was her. She looked no different than the last time I saw her. A denim shirt adorned her upper-half and was tucked into a pair of bright red shorts in the front. Her cinnamon brown hair flowed down past her shoulders in luscious waves and her mouth was turned up into a genuine smile. Her eyes held tears, but also a hint of elation. Was she as excited to see me as I was to see her? I could only hope so.
I stood in place, almost stunned by her presence. It’d been months since I’d seen her and I was unsure on how to react now. But here she was, only a couple feet in front of me and I couldn’t even move a muscle.
It was an understatement to say I was overwhelmed, so instead of mustering the strength to walk towards her, I smiled, and she took that as her opportunity to meet me instead.
From where she stood, she sprinted over to me, falling into my outstretched arms with a solid impact that would have knocked me over had I not caught myself by taking a step back. Her arms clung to my neck and squeezed with all their might as she embraced me. The smell of her perfume lingered in the air and I inhaled the welcoming scent.
My arms surrounded her, protected her even, as I tried pulling her as close to me as humanly possible. I wanted nothing more than to stay in this moment, but I knew that such a desire was too farfetched to come true.
