Madison's POV

The first thing I felt was metal. Cold and unyielding beneath my spine. Then the dull, throbbing ache in my skull. My body was stiff, my wrists sore like I'd been bound, and the air was thick with rust and sweat.

Voices murmured around me. Blurry shadows. Breathing.

"Madison?"

I knew that voice before I opened my eyes.

"Blake..." My throat was dry and cracked. My head pounded as I sat up too fast, but the warmth of his hands on my arms steadied me.

He was crouched beside me in the dim corner of what looked like a train car. His face was cut, blood dried along his jawline, hair messy like he hadn't slept in days. But his eyes, those wide, brown eyes, were locked onto mine with nothing but raw concern.

"You're okay," he said, breath hitching. "God, you're okay."

I blinked, trying to process. "Where-what happened?"

"Terminus happened," he muttered. "They tricked us. Said it was safe. It's not." His jaw clenched. "They locked us in here."

I looked around, slowly taking in the others—faces I recognized first.

Maggie. Glenn. Carl, asleep with Judith cradled in his lap. Rick, kneeling by the door with a manic intensity in his eyes. Daryl was pacing like a caged animal. Carol. Sasha. Tyreese.

And then... strangers.

Two women, a guy with a red beard, and a man who looked like he'd never stepped outside a library.

I moved closer to Blake, unsettled.

"They came after us got caught, same as us," Blake whispered. "Haven't said much. Rick doesn't trust them either."

I glanced at Maggie. She looked exhausted, her hair tangled and eyes rimmed red. Glenn had an arm around her. When she saw me, her face cracked into a tired, broken smile.

"Madison," she breathed, rushing over. She hugged me fiercely, and something in my chest loosened. "I thought we lost you."

"I'm okay," I whispered. "I'm okay now."

We sat in silence for a few minutes. Someone handed me a bottle cap's worth of water. Blake never left my side.

Rick eventually turned to the group. "We can't stay in here. They're eaters. Cannibals."

"They're organized," Glenn added grimly. "They separated us before. Took me and Maggie into another room... it wasn't random."

"They're watching us," Daryl muttered. "Listening."

Rick looked like he was unraveling and holding it together at the same time. "We wait. We fight when they open that door again."

That door.

Heavy steel. Locked tight.

But even steel had seams.

We sat in shifts—watching, listening, planning. Every creak in the metal made my heart jump. Judith fussed quietly in Carl's arms. Blake kept his arm wrapped around my shoulders like he was afraid I might disappear again.

I leaned into it.

"I thought they had you," I said quietly as the others spoke in hushed tones about weapons and weak points.

"They did," he admitted. "Tied us up. Took you first. I heard you scream. Then nothing."

I looked down at my hands, fidgeting. "I'm sorry."
