Ava's pov.
"MIA! AVA! GRAB YOUR DANCE BAGS YOU DONT WANT TO BE LATE!" My mom yelled from the kitchen. "Okay mom we'll be right there!" Mia yells back. We grab our matching dance bags and Nike Sneakers and head into the car. "I call shot gun" my little sister Sadie calls out trying to run ahead of us. Her O'Larry Wells Academy jacket is hanging down to her knees because she's so tiny. Mom picks her up and straps her into her car seat in between me and my twin Mia. We all do Irish Step Dancing and our mom was a world champion back when she danced and our dad was a national champion too. So I guess we have pretty big shoes to fill, but it's okay because we're all doing solos at our Oireachtas this year.

Last year I got 13th and Mia got 15th and we were only 7 competing in the U9 competition and Sadie got 10th for her traditional set in the U7 competition even though she was 4. She's such a favorite, she has a private at 4 so that's why we're leaving early because our classes don't start until 5:30.

"Ava?... AVA" my mom yelled. "Oh sorry I zoned out" I apologized "Of course you did, Mia doesn't zone out try to be more like her if you practiced more like her you...." And I zoned out again, I wasn't in the mood to be compared to the golden child. Mia has to be the perfect one always but I end up doing better at competitions so it doesn't matter. We pull up to the studio and we all jump out with a chorus of "bye mom!"

This is it. Oireachtas training starts now and I will be on top of that podium I know it.

Mia's POV

"MIA! AVA! GRAB YOUR DANCE BAGS YOU DON'T WANNA BE LATE!" My mom yells from the kitchen. "Ok mom we'll be right there!" I yell back. Ava and I grab our matching dance bags and Nike sneakers and head out to the car.
"I call shotgun!" My little sister Sadie calls out, trying to run ahead of us. Her O'Larry Wells Academy jacket is literally down to her knees because she's a midget. Jk she's five years old, so naturally she's tiny. My mom picks Sadie up and straps her into her car seat between me and my twin sister, Ava.
We all do Irish Dance, our mom was a world champion when she danced, and my dad... Well h was a national champion, so our parents and everyone else really have really high expectations for us. That can be kind of stressful, but it's nice too knowing you have the potential to go as far as they did.

Anyway, we're all competing at the Mid Atlantic Regional Oireachtas this year and we're pretty excited about that! Last year when Ava and I were only 7, I got 15th and Ava got 13th. Sadie got 10th in traditional set when she was competing U7 at age 4. But this year, Ava and I know that the competition is gonna be stiffer than ever! Last year there weren't that many girls in the U8 competition, 56 I think. This year there's probably gonna be loads more and loads more amazing dancers, so we have to train extra hard.

We're heading to the studio even though it's only 3:45 and our classes start at 5:30. Wanna know why? Because Sadie has a private at 4. Ava and I just have to go because our class is after.
I stare out of the window at the passing houses and hills thinking about how excited I am for the Oireachtas! I've been training really hard at home because I want to qualify for Nationals again!

"Ava?... AVA!" Mom yells.
"Oh sorry I zoned out." Ava apologizes.
"Of course you did, Mia doesn't zone out. Try to be more like her. If you practiced more like her you would be doing much better in prelim. The only reason she's still in prizewinner is because we want you two to be in separate competitions for a little bit. I knew if we held you back you would have a harder time getting out of prizewinner." Mom says, but I can tell Ava's not listening.

Mom always says this stuff and it makes me feel bad because I'm really not the angel child. None of us are actually. And I wasn't "held back" in prizewinner, I just can't get my last first! Everybody says I'm better than Ava at class, but at feises she tends to do better. But that's ok, because I love her just the same! We pull into the studio and we all jump out of the car and yell, "Bye mom!" Then we head into the studio.

This is the start of Oireachtas prep, Oireachtas training. This is where the dreams can be made.
