I'm coming over
A second text rang out, catching Sada's attention. She was lost and confused. She knew she wanted to see him and was happy because they'd be back together, but her heart felt differently. She felt as if this two-week break opened her eyes, and she was falling out of love with him, but she didn't want to listen.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by a loud knock at the door. Scrambling out of bed, she raced towards the front door, taking a deep breath before unlocking it and opening it, revealing him standing in front of her. They stood in silence, looking at each other, before he broke the silence, speaking up.
"You gonna let me in?" he asked, his voice slightly raspy. She moved aside, letting him come in, watching as he removed his shoes and walked over to the living room, sitting on the couch. He waved her over and grabbed her hand, pulling her down gently to sit next to him.
"I'm sorry, Sada," he said, breaking the silence. She was slightly shocked but didn't let her face show it. He rarely apologized first, but when he did, it was genuine—or at least she thought it was.
"Sada, I know what I said and what you saw didn't align," he said, his eyes roaming her face, searching for any kind of reaction. She pulled her hand away from him and stood up.
"You lied," she said, her voice slightly shaking. He stood up, trying to embrace her, but she backed away.
"I don't wanna do this with you anymore. I'm tired," she said, her voice cracking and her eyes slightly tearing up. She wiped her eyes, confused as to why she was crying.
"I know, Sada, and I don't wanna do this with you anymore either. I'm trying to do different," he spoke softly, stepping closer to Sada. She hated this about him; he had a way with his words and knew exactly what to tell her to get her back with him, but it wouldn't work this time.
"No, I'm done. This is exhausting, and I don't wanna do it anymore," she said, stepping away from him again. They exchanged conversation back and forth before she cut him off, telling him to leave.
"You can come by and get your stuff tomorrow," she said quietly, standing next to the front door, watching as he slipped on his shoes.
"So, we really over, Sada?" he said, standing up, leaning on the wall across from her, looking at her. She crossed her arms and nodded.
"Yeah, it's over," her voice low and quiet. He nodded, walking out, giving her one last glance before getting into his car.
She closed the door, locking it, running back up to her room, getting into bed, tears falling. She was heartbroken; she didn't want to leave him, but for her sanity, she had to. She was tired of all the back and forth, the lying, and being toxic. She was over all of it, so she did what she had to do to break the cycle.
