Yvonne unlocked the door, walking in and kicking off her heels, feeling sweet relief. She closed the door behind her, locking it, and called out for her boyfriend, smiling as she walked closer to their bedroom. Opening the door, she saw her boyfriend on top of her best friend. He cheated on her again. She slowly backed out of the room, walking away.
"Wait! Yvonne, come back!" he screamed out as he scrambled out of the room, trying to put his pants on. She walked to the front door, slipping on some slides and walking out. He grabbed her from behind.
"Let me go," she said, her voice quivering, snatching her arm from his grasp and walking away towards her car. She backed out of the driveway, driving towards her best friend Kay's house, blinking back tears clouding her vision. She parked her car, walking through the rain towards his front door, knocking on the door in the freezing rain.
The door opened to reveal her best friend standing in front of her, seemingly tired. He yawned before his eyes got wider, pulling her into his house.
"What happened, Vee?" he said, taking off his zip-up, throwing it over her shoulders, looking into her red, teary eyes.
"He cheated again," she said, going into him for a hug. He hesitated for a second before embracing her, rubbing her back as she cried into his shirt. They stood there in silence before he spoke up.
"You're soaking wet, Vee. You're gonna get sick. You can take a shower; I'll give you something to wear," he said, pulling away from the hug and leading her towards the guest bathroom, closing the door behind him as he left. She grabbed a rag and towel from under the sink and turned on the shower.
She slowly peeled the wet clothes from her skin, getting into the hot shower, a stark contrast to her cold skin. Grabbing the rag, she squeezed the men's soap onto her rag and washed off her body. She heard a knock, causing her to pause and speak up.
"Come in," she spoke, hearing the door open and Kay walk in, placing something on the counter before leaving again. She wrapped up her shower, wrapping the towel around her body, drying off, and slipping on the oversized tank top and boxers he gave her to wear, towel-drying her hair and looking at her face through the mirror. Her eyes were red and low. She turned away from the mirror and walked out of the bathroom towards Kay's room, seeing him changed and lying in his bed, scrolling on his phone, putting it down once she walked in, sitting up.
Her eyes started watering up again, and he opened his arms, causing her to walk over into his arms, breaking back down as he rubbed her back. They sat there silently as he waited for her to be comfortable enough to speak. She picked up her head, looking directly at him.
"You ready to talk about it?" he asked, speaking softly, earning a nod from her.
"I came home, took off my shoes like it was a regular day, and then I went into the room and saw him on top of my best friend," she said, tearing up again.
"Vee, I know this isn't what you wanna hear, but I've been telling you to leave him; he isn't good for you," he said, still speaking softly. She stood up, standing in front of him.
"But I love him!" she yelled slightly.
"But does he love you, Vee? You gotta think, would he be cheating if he loved you?" he said, speaking honestly.
"Why does he keep doing this, Kay?" she asked, her lip quivering slightly.
"I don't know, Vee, but I know you don't deserve this," he said, pulling her back into his chest. He laid down as she laid on his chest, and they drifted off to sleep comfortably in silence.
A few hours later, she sat up, being pulled back down, seeing Kay still asleep above her. She sat back down, his hands sliding down to her waist. She grabbed her phone next to her, seeing it dead. Reaching for the charger, she plugged up her phone, her phone pinging with back-to-back messages and missed calls from her boyfriend. Kay grabbed her phone, turning it back off, opening his eyes, and looking at her.
"Vee, can we talk?" Kay said, sitting up, his hands still on her waist. She nodded and looked at him attentively.
"I have feelings for you, Vee," he spoke softly. She sat shocked in silence.
"Vee, say something," he said, not liking the silence radiating throughout the room.
"How long?" she said. Those were the only two words she could muster up to say with the thousands of thoughts ruminating through her head, looking away.
"I've always loved you, Vee," he said, turning her head back to face him. She pulled him into a kiss, and he hesitantly kissed back, smiling once they broke the kiss.
"So no more of that nigga, right?" he said, pulling Vee close. She giggled, nodding her head as they turned over, going back to sleep.
