Kohani worked at her mom's flower shop, a floral boutique. These past few weeks have been very busy for her, whether it were for birthdays, apology flowers, or date night. Kohani was currently putting together flower arrangements to put on display when she heard the bell by the door go off, causing her to pull off her gloves and put down what she was working on.
"I'll be right with you," she yelled as she made her way to the front, seeing one of her regulars smiling. He put his phone in his pocket, seeing her smiling back at him. Jay was a regular; he always came on Tuesdays and never got the same thing, and the more he came, the more she got to know him.
"What can I do for you today?" She slightly giggled, leaning on the counter in front of her. Jay crossed his arms, looking at the paper in front of him with all the flowers on it.
"Which one is your favorite?" he asked, looking up at her. She turned the paper towards her, scanning the menu.
"Personally, my favorites are lilies, but those are kind of expensive, so I'd pick pink and white roses. What are her favorite flowers?" she said, turning the menu back towards him. He nodded and smiled.
"Let me do pink and white roses and lilies," he said, pointing at the menu, ignoring her question, causing Kohani to nod and write down what he asked for. She went to the back and grabbed all the flowers, setting them on the table before going out to the front of the store to talk to him about how he wanted his flowers to be arranged.
"So, do you want them to be, like, scattered or arranged?" she asked. He responded, saying he wanted them arranged, and Kohani started talking about ways to arrange them. Jay agreed with the first option she discussed. She slightly laughed and shook her head before heading to the back and starting to put the bouquet together. "Freefall" by Kaytranada came on, and she sung along to the song lowly. She finally finished the bouquet and smiled, looking at her work, and brought the flowers to the front to show them to him. The flowers were arranged with pink and white roses in the middle and lilies around the edges, with baby's breath and other small flowers throughout.
"What do you think?" she said, showing him the flowers, explaining and pointing at the things in the bouquet, searching his face for a reaction.
"I love 'em. How much?" he asked, pulling out his card. She set the flowers down and started ringing up the price.
"Your total will be $59.50, but for one of my favorite regulars, I'll do $40 flat," she smiled. He nodded, paying for the flowers, and pulled a $20 out of his pocket, handing it to her. She shook her head no, and he placed it on the counter, and she handed him the flowers.
"When you gonna let me take you out, Kohani?" he said, leaning on the counter in front of her, causing her to blush and turn her head away.
"I'm not buying these flowers for nothing. I'm tryna talk to you," he said, turning her head back toward him, making eye contact with her.
"Let me take you out tomorrow night. Put your number in my phone; I'll call you," he said, putting his phone on the counter, sliding it slightly toward her. She put her number in, sliding the phone back toward him.
"Fine, I'm gonna hold you to that," she smiled. He put his phone in his pocket and slid the flowers back toward her.
"Keep 'em; they're yours. I'll call you tonight," he said, walking backwards out of the store, smiling at her. She waved bye and watched as he left.

Later that night, as Kohani was putting on her face mask, she heard her phone ring. She walked back into her room, grabbing her phone, seeing an unsaved FaceTime. Assuming it was Jay, she answered the call, sitting down on her bed, looking down, and seeing Jay smiling.
"Heyy, Kohanii," he said, setting up his phone, smiling, causing Kohani to set up her phone and wave. They shared more conversation back and forth, Kohani getting comfortable with him and getting to know him more.
"You look good," Jay said, smiling. She waved him off, causing him to laugh.
"Boy, please, I have on a face mask," she laughed. They shared more conversation before Kohani started getting tired. She said bye and hung up, finished getting ready for bed, and went to sleep.
