72] His Bubba

L simply placed his thumb in his mouth and then looked at me straight in the eye.
" You're lying"

.
"What?"
His gaze subconsciously lowered to my lips. His hand gently played with a few strands of my hair.
He did that sometimes. When he was deep in thought.
"You lied to me"
He mumbled.
I internally screamed. Was it too obvious? Too blatant of a lie? He looked calm though... or is it a test to see how I'd react?
I had frozen for a few moments and all I could muster was a- " What do you mean"
He wasn't making eye contact with me. It's like he was calming himself down with my presence .
" You lied y/n" he said as his finger gently twisted my hair.
" You said you'd be free. That day I asked you to be free"
I visibly relaxed. Here I was thinking this man had figured out everything else!
He was so ... cute?
I Sighed.
"Ryuzaki I never replied that day"
" But you did Y/n"
I narrowed my eyes.
" when? I didn't even say a word-"
"But did with your eyes..." he said while he looked into my eyes now.
I tilted my head
" huh?"
The back of his hand gently grazed my eyelids and I felt compelled to close my eyes. His touch was so loving.. so sweet...
"You always talk with your eyes..." he mumbled. He sounded more like he was making an observation. He spoke so stiffly it was rather.. cute.
"Your eyes are.. pretty..." he mumbled as his fingers traced my features.
He sounded lost in my eyes. Even when I was looking at him it felt as if he was looking into my soul, not my eyes.
I sighed. " You're silly, Ryuzaki"
His head tilted as he stared at me.
"What?"
"You're just a silly silly boy" I smiled faintly as I looked at his eyes.
Suddenly I felt an ounce of guilt. Was it right to be so close to another man when Light was now my.. my boyfriend.
It wasn't. I stepped back.
His hand fell from my face.
"Would you please tell the others about Penber and the incident? I think I could use some rest Ryuzaki"
I didn't say anymore as I left the room. As soon as I opened the door I saw light standing in front of it with a scowl on his face as if he was about to push the door open if I hadn't come out.
I glanced at Mogi who frowned probably expecting me to finally explain myself.
"Light.. home" I said. Light immediately held onto my wrist. His gaze softening
"You need to tell-" before mogi could finish Light simply pulled me by the wrist. I suppose L told the others what happened because by the time we reached home mogi sent me a " sorry for misunderstanding you" text message. Still I believed that maybe there was an ounce or distrust or doubt in him. Unless L had managed to convince them to think otherwise. However in the current situation I was in all that didn't matter. I was sat on my couch as light prepared tea for the both of us. I went upstairs to my room to get changed into some home clothes. I shut the door. I sighed when I looked into the mirror. Y/n y/l/n... how far you've come... I sighed again as I got changed into some comfortable clothes. Just as I was about to shut the cupboard door I hesitated. Something was missing. My breath caught in my throat. The box. The box of unlimited money- where the hell is it? Suddenly I panicked. I frantically threw around things searching for it. NO! Did someone steal it? That's impossible!! I slumped to the ground. The Reaper's words played in my head.

"Y/n!"
Light's voice called my name out from the living room. I gasped. I just fixed my hair and grounded myself.
Relax y/n. He can't know.
I went down and saw light standing infront of the stove.
Maybe I was wrong about Light as well. About everything he did for me. Maybe it wasn't a facade. Maybe he actually... loved me? Why is it that I just realised then? Or I knew the whole time but dismissed it because I didn't believe it ?
These walls.. these walls I'd built around myself... I could feel them crumbling when-
"Bubba?"
Huh?
I looked up at Light.
Did he just call me ... Bubba?
He sat down next to me and kept the tea cups down.
" You okay Bubba?"
My head tilted. Wasn't all this... supposed to be cringe...?
I couldn't say anything but only stared at him. Oh god this is so... silly...
And then he pulled me into his lap.
" I think its a cute nickname for you."
He gently carresed my arm.
Bubba... The word left my lips faintly...
Silly but.. endearing. I allowed myself to relax in his hold. And he held me. Held me close. It was warm. It was cozy.
I never knew I needed this. More than I could even begin to imagine. Light's hands carresed my head gently.
" ready to tell me what happened back there hm?" I nodded.
Told him the same story I had told L. Light nodded with understanding.
He scoffed at the part where I sent L my location.
" You silly girl" he kissed my forehead.
" You should've sent your location to me instead... I wish I could be there for you... could protect you but I.. "
He choked on his own words.
I just looked down.
I never realised when my eyes started shutting on their own. The tea forgotten. Good thing Light's chest was a good pillow.

Meanwhile at the task force office>>

Watari placed L's favourite strawberry shortcake down on the table.
He looked at the cup of tea, untouched.
"It's cold" watari announced.
L didn't really respond. He was crouched on his chair with his thumb to his lip as he stared into oblivion. Files and sheets of papers scattered all over the place.
"Am I silly?"
Watari's eyes narrowed.
" sorry what-"
" Am I a.. silly boy Watari?"
Watari just coughed .
" Um.. not really I find you rather.. intelligent "
L just looked at Watari with nonchalance.
"No."
"Sorry?"
"I'm a...silly... silly...boy"

Watari just looked at him confused.
