I packed the last of my bags and started out the door. We got to the airport just in time leaving me just enough time to say goodbye to my family. I could see my mom holding back tears but I turned away before I started crying too. With one last smile and wave back, I was on my way.

Chapter 1: Rain

"MOM!" I yelled down the stairs. "YES?" she yelled back.

"HAVE YOU SEEN MY IPOD?" I yelled once more down the steps. I turned away from the door and kept searching my room. Noticing my mom still had not answered, I turned around to prepare to yell again, but was stopped by the sudden presence of my mom standing in my doorway.

I jumped a little, not expecting her to be standing there. "Gosh Mom. How the heck do you do that?" I asked, still rumaging through my room.

"You'll find out when you become a mother one day," my mom answered with amusement in her tone. I rolled my eyes playfully at her then continued my search.

As I was searching through my closet, my mom cleared her throat behind me. I turned around to see her holding a little green device with headphones around it. I jumped up and grabbed it from her hand then hugged her.

"Where was it?" I asked excitedly. "Your sister was using it," my mom answered. As soon as she said it I narrowed my eyes. No, I didn't hate my sister, I was just worried that I was going to have to leave the country without it.

"Mom she always does that," I complained knowing exactly which sister she was talking about. Without giving her a chance to respond, I marched out of my room and made a B-line to my younger sister's room.

"Melanie! Why were you using my ipod?" I interrogated. She looked startled at my sudden outburst, the way I had been startled when my mom magically showed up in my room.

"I'm sorry! I just wanted to listen to it one more time before you left!" she rushed out. I immediatly softened up. It wasn't until then that I realized just how much I would miss her.

I plopped down on her bed and turned to face her sitting at her desk. "Whacha working on?" I asked her. She  sighed and turned back to the laptop sitting on her desk.

"Book report," she replied glumly. I laughed and ruffled her hair. "Ah the good ole' days," I said sarcastically.

She rolled her eyes then laughed. She got that from me. Melanie suddenly shut her laptop and stood up, facing me. A sad look suddenly washed over her face.

"I'm really gonna miss you, Chels," she said sadly. I stood up and hugged her and she hugged me back. I was going to miss her just as much.

"I have to go finish packing up," I told her after we let go of each other. She nodded then smiled at me.

When I returned back to my room, I found my mom sitting on my bed looking at a photo in her hands with glossy eyes. I sat next to her and gently asked, "What's that?"
