The blue-haired boy couldn't sleep at night after catching a glimpse of his past life—shattered fragments that didn't belong to this century or even this name. Faces he could no longer place haunted him whenever he closed his eyes, their whispers curling around his thoughts like smoke.
The cold side of the bed reminded him of a different ache. His vampire mate hadn't returned yet. It was almost the time when the sun was about to rise. He tried not to imagine the worst.
Maybe his visions had meaning. Perhaps they were warnings.
He pulled the blanket tighter around himself, but it did nothing to warm the hollow space beside him or soothe the tremor in his chest. Tonight, the darkness felt alive, watching, waiting for him to remember the life he had once lived—and the promise he had once made.
His chain of thoughts stopped when he heard shuffling. Jungkook finally returned, the heavy door creaked open, and a gust of night air slipped into the room. Taehyung, his mate, who was still awake, sat curled up on the edge of the bed, watching the doorway with tired but worried eyes.
"You're back," he whispered, relief softening his voice.
Jungkook nodded, his expression a blend of exhaustion and determination. He slipped off his coat, dusted with the scent of rain and midnight, and set it over the chair.
"I had to handle something about the clan's security," he said, voice low and edged with the authority that always seemed to settle in the room with him.
"There have been...unwelcome movements near the borders."
Taehyung swallowed, looking down at his hands.
"I thought you wouldn't come back until morning."
"I didn't want to leave you wondering." Jungkook crossed the room in two silent steps and brushed a cool hand against his cheek.
"You should be resting."
"I couldn't sleep."
A faint smile tugged at Jungkook's mouth—sad, but touched by affection.
"Why??? Is it something bothering you?"
"I heard some voices and some..." Taehyung stopped, thought, should he tell him or not?
Jungkook caught his unfocused eyes and came close and scooping his mate delicately in his cold yet warm arms, whispering in his ears.
"You need to stay strong, whatever you're watching or seen it was all past but that's truth love..." patting his blue soft locks by his veiny tattooed fingers, calming him down.
"You'll understand it soon. Just know that I'm here, hmm." Lastly kissed his forehead after glancing at his Hazel eyes as he saw all the things.
Taehyung stared at him calmly as if he was in heaven or in the place where he should be from the start. It was feeling like home.
He nodded with hooded eyes and leaned for the touch of the ravenette who lay him down carefully after covering him warm blanket.
Jungkook stayed beside his love for how many long hours, even when the sun rises and its light softly comes from the light curtains. He brushed the long, soft lock from Taehyung's sun-kissed face.
