Carter POV

We came up with the names Noah and Noelle for the twins. It's simple and they match like Zora wanted.

Things were so much different without her being around. I didn't feel the need to dress my best and I was desperate for something to do all the time, to keep my mind off of being without her. Like lately I have been spending all my time with my parents.

"Your turn." My Dad says.

"Try to keep it on the course this time bud." My sisters husband, Tony says. We were at a country club while the women set on a patio deck sipping "the finest wine"

"Well golfing is my thing." I said hi, taking a swing at the ball." It went far but not to where it should have been. Who cares though?

"That's not bad." A black man walks up to us. Followed by Dean and my friend Aaron.

"Thaddeus how are you man?" Tony says, shaking his hand.

"I'm fine." He shakes hands with my father names. "Mr. Nielsen, glad you and your wife have come back to see us at Applewood.

"Well we finally got the time to." This was so uncomfortable. "This is my boy Carter. He's the one my headquarters going to." My Dad says proudly.

Well that's a lot of responsibility. But this is my son Dean and my nephew in law Aaron." He says. I just nod. My focus was on trying not to punch Dean in the face but I held my composure.

We were all on the table in the conference area just talking. Will I was listening to these boring conversation going on.

"Hopefully. That's if he takes anything serious." My Dad chuckles.

"But aren't you in a relationship Carter?" Dean says. "At least that's what was going around school. Recently."

"I didn't know anything about that." My mom says. "Who was she?"

"Zora Allen." Dean says.

"Why don't you shut your mouth." I snap.

"Carter." My dad groans. "You mean cheif of police Jeff Allen, daughter?" He raises an eyebrow. I take a sip of my drink, as the table went silent.

"She's a pretty girl," my Mom shrugs. "just didn't know you were, you know, interested in dating outside your race. Not that anything is wrong with that!" She says looking at Thaddeus.

"You weren't going to tell us?"

"No." I shrug.

"Well she had to leave town. She's pregnant. With twins."  Dean nods. He better pray to God I don't catch him alone somewhere. I just keep my eyes on my plate, clenching my fist.

"Excuse me?" My Mom says.

"Uh Mom, are you enjoying this steamed broccoli?" My sister says. "Maybe you should have some more wine." She slides her the bottle.
