Carter POV

"So you're not going?" My mom says. I switch the phone to my other ear as I pulled my pants up. "We can rent you a tux in the next few minutes if we have to honey."

"Nah Mom, I'm just going out of town for the night."

"I just wish we could see you go to the last prom sweetheart."

"I'm sorry." I laugh a bit.

"Well what are you going out of town for again?"

"To surprise Zora." I say grabbing Sunny's leash. "Remember I'm bringing Sunny over."

"Alright. Well see you when you get here."

"Alright, bye." I hang.

Things with my family were so much better. They were more of parents than they've ever been to be honest and it was just great to know they were genuine about wanting to build a better relationship for Noah and Noelle's sake too.

"Mom?" I say once I walk into the house. I take Sunny off the leash and he takes off.

"In the kitchen!" she yells. I walk in and the kitchen was a mess.

"Uh, what's going on?" I laugh.

"Trying to cook for your father." she nods, wiping her forehead with the back of her hand.

"Cook? Where's Manny?" I laugh referring to the chef.

"I gave him the day off." she wipes her hands on the apron. "But come come, I have something for you." I follow her down the hall to her jewelry room. Yes jewelry room. Mind, you it's not that big, but it literally sparkled in there. She opens one of the many cases, to a rectangular box. She lifted the top, revealing a silver necklace with a diamond studded heart pendant. "I want you to give this to Zora."

"What? Why?"

"It's been passed down forever, and your father gave it to me when he found out I was pregnant with your sister. I think you should give it to Zora. It's real platinum and diamonds." She nods with a smile. "Handmade and all." She places the box in my hand.

"You sure?"

"Yes. I'm excited to meet her Carter. Especially if she's as amazing as you say."

"Soon Mom. But I have a two and a half hour drive to make so I'm gonna head out."

"Alright honey. Drive safe, and call me when you can." she kisses my cheek.

"I will."

As I was driving, my phone rung. I press the button on my steering wheel, slowing down a bit.

"Hello?"

"Hey how are you?" Zora's beautiful voice fills the speakers.

"Hey baby," I fake cough. "I'm just running a little fever." Just to make the surprise better, I got Zora to think I've been sick for the past two days, so she wouldn't suspect anything.
