New Isn't Always Good

I stared at myself in the mirror and bit my lip gently. Today's Thursday, June 11th. It's 6:45. Prom is tonight. Alec, Ashley and Cara are forcing me to go. I don't want to go. I do not. Everyone's going to be with their boyfriends. Alec will be with her girlfriend. And I'll be the 5th wheel. Of course. Because my girlfriend is off in Florida doing a concert. I ran my hands over the front of my black dress and I smiled. I do like the dress. It has lace in sections. It's gorgeous. My heels are black stilettos, but my dress covers them up. I curled my hair and did dark eye makeup but light lip gloss. I smiled again as Cara came in. She smiled. "You're so gorgeous!" She shouted. I laughed. "Come on. Let's go." She said. I nodded. She's wearing a teal cocktail dress and matching stilettos. She's my 'date' for tonight since Emma's not here. We linked our arms and went to her Silver Porsche. She has this and the Charger. (Emma has 3 cars and a motorcycle.) She drove to my school and parked. We got out and went in. We went to the gym and its decorated. The theme is Happily Ever After. Which is a corny way to say fairytale. The lights are dimmed and it's already almost full. I'm one of the only girls wearing black. Oh well. We went and found Alec and her girlfriend Mo and they were already with Ashley and her boyfriend Sean. We all started dancing and having a surprisingly fun time.

At around 10, they were starting to play mostly slow songs. I had stepped outside and leaned against the wall. Mo came out and smiled. "Heyy Reginaaaa. Come back and danceee." She slurred. She's drunk. Of course. "Nah... I'm not really in the mood to dance." I said. She scoffed. "And why the fuck not?" She said, too loudly. "Because. My girlfriend is over a thousand miles away." I said. She rolled her eyes and grabbed my wrist, then dragged me back into the gym. Damn. We went and found Alec and Cara, then Ashley and Sean. I smiled as we all danced and laughed. Jack and Jack's Like That started playing and Cara smirked as I danced. When the song ended, A Thousand Years by Christina Perri started playing, I looked to the door and saw a flash of blonde hair. I furrowed my eyebrows. Then, the entire gym split down the middle. And standing there, in a black leather dress that stops a little past mid-thigh and is sleeveless, my beautiful Emma. My eyes watered and I took a step towards her. She saw me and smiled. I picked up the bottom Of my dress and ran to her. She picked me up in her arms and held me tightly. "Fuck I missed you." I said as my tears started falling. "I missed you too." She said, quietly. "I love you." I said in a whisper. "I love you too." She whispered back. "Come on. Let's dance, love." She said quietly. I nodded and pulled away. She smiled and wiped my tears away. Luckily, I put on waterproof makeup. She grabbed my hand and we walked back to Cara, Alec, Ashley and Sean. They're all smiling. "Did you know she was coming?" I asked. They nodded. "That's why you guys all forced me to come." I said. They nodded again and I laughed. "Well, I'm glad you guys forced me to come." I said. "I knew you would be." Cara said. After A Thousand Years, they played Make You Miss Me by Sam Hunt. We all started slow dancing. Cara and Alec are dancing together? Where's Mo? I'll ask later. Emma wrapped her arms around my waist and pulled me close. I smiled and wrapped my arms around her neck. I nuzzled my head into the crook of her neck and she tightened her arms around me. "How are you here?" I asked quietly. She kissed my head and I smiled a little. "I couldn't miss your prom, baby. And I know you didn't go to your junior prom. So, I had to make sure you came to your senior prom and it was a night to remember." She said. I kissed her neck gently and I felt the goosebumps rise. I smiled. "You've been gone for two months. It will be a night to remember." I said, quietly. "Gah, I missed you." She whispered. I smiled. "I missed you too." I said. "Okay! This is the last song before you find out your prom king and queen!" The dj said. It's another slow song. When You Sleep by Mary Lambert. Emma and I danced and I smiled through it. When the song ended, everyone looked at the dj. "Alright. Headmistress Williams. You wanna come on up?" He said. She did. She's wearing a simple black cocktail dress. Emma has her arm around my waist and squeezed my hip. I looked at her and she smiled. "She's your principal?" She asked. I chuckled. "Yeah." I said. "Do you think she's cute?" I asked. Emma raised and eyebrow. "Nope. She's not my type." She said. I raised my eyebrows. "Then what is your type." I said. She smirked. "Sexy brunettes named Regina Mills." She said. I smiled and got closer to her. "Okay. So, first we'll do prom king." Headmistress Williams said. "So, your prom king is.." She said. She grabbed the envelope from Ms. Wilkins (her confirmed girlfriend.) "Cross Spencer." She said and smiled. A boy with swoopy dirty blonde hair walked up on stage. He smiled as they put the crown on him. Then, he was handed the bouquet of roses for the prom queen. "And now, your prom queen." Headmistress Williams said. Ms. Wilkins gave her the envelope and she opened it. She smiled. "Regina Mills." She said. My eyes went wide and Emma looked at me. "You didn't tell me." She said. "I-I didn't know." I said. She smiled. Cara and Alec smiled and I walked towards the stage. I went up the stairs and they smiled. Cross handed me the roses and some teacher I didn't know put my tiara on my head. "Alright! Enjoy the rest of your prom!" She said. Now Cross and I have to do a slow dance. We left the stage and Cara took my roses from me. He put his hands on my waist and I awkwardly put my hands on his shoulders. He smiled. "You're really pretty." He said. I smiled. "Thank you." I said. He nodded. "So, you're a senior right?" He asked. I nodded. "I'm a junior." He said. I nodded again. "I was wondering." I said. He nodded. "You know, I was scared I was going to like, trip and fall and embarrass myself in front of you." He said. I laughed. "Well, you didn't." I said. He smiled. I glanced over and saw Emma. She's dancing with another girl. I felt jealousy build inside me as Emma laughed at something that was said. I wrapped my arms around his neck and leaned my head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around my waist and I smiled. I wish it was Emma, but she's over there with some other girl. The slow song ended, so we pulled away. "Will you come meet my friends?" He asked. I smiled. "Yeah. Sure." I said. He smiled and walked over to a group of people and he held my hand. "Guys, this is Regina." He said. I smiled at all of them and he dropped my hand. "I love your dress Regina." A girl said. I smiled. "Thanks! I love yours too!" I said. She smiled. "I'm Lexus." She said. I smiled and nodded. Her blonde hair is in a waterfall braid. "I'm Max." Her date said. "I'm Chris." Another guy said. "I'm Haley." His date said. I smiled. "Nice to meet you all." I said. They all smiled.

Prom ended at 11:30. I hung out with Cross and his friends most of the time after we won. Emma didn't even look for me. So, we slow danced together. "I can't believe you're graduating on Saturday." Lexus said. I nodded. "I know. But, I'm doing online college, so I'll be around. We can hang out and stuff." I said. They nodded. We're outside the school. "Do you need a ride Regina?" Cross asked. I sighed. "I don't know. I have no idea where Emma is. Or Cara. So." I said. "You want to use my phone?" Max asked. I nodded. "Thanks." I said. He nodded and handed me his phone. I dialed Emma's number and she picked up. I heard other voices behind her mumbled 'hey'. "Hey.. Where are you?" "Home. Cara and I left." "Y-you left me here?" "I figured you'd want to hang out with your new friends." "Well.. Okay.. How am I supposed to get home." "My jeeps there." "O-okay.." She hung up and I felt all my energy leave me. I handed Max his phone back and they all looked at me. "They left me a car." I said. They nodded. "We should hang out tomorrow." Haley said. I nodded. "Regina, I'll text you the details." Lexus said. I nodded. Haley and Cross are twins. "Alright. Bye guys." I said. They all waved. I walked around the parking lot and to Emma's Jeep. Keys. I sighed and opened the door. They're on the seat. Okay.. I turned the car on and felt tears buildings in my eyes. I drove back to the house and furrowed my eyebrows, seeing 2 cars in the driveway. I pulled in the garage, then went in the house. I went upstairs and to my room. I saw Emma coming out of our bathroom and she's in a bikini and her hairs in a messy bun. "Meet us out back." She said and left, not saying anything else. I sighed and grabbed my bikini. I pulled off my dress, bra and thong, then pulled on the navy blue bikini. I went to the bathroom and took off my makeup, then took off my tiara and put it on the cabinet. I put my hair in a fishtail braid. I pulled on a long flannel shirt, then went downstairs and to the backyard. My eyes went wide, seeing Headmistress Williams and Ms. Wilkins in the hot tub with some guy, Cara, Emma and O-Olivia. "Hey Regina! Congrats on winning!" Ms. Wilkins said. I smiled and nodded. Emma and Olivia looked at me and I smiled, then went back inside. I heard Cara say something, but I went straight upstairs and got my phone. I called Belle, not thinking that it's 3 am there. She answered though. "What's up?" "I.. I think Emma's going to dump me for someone her own age." "Why would you think that?" "Prom was tonight. Emma surprised me and showed up. I ended up winning prom queen. So, I danced with the guy who won. And she was dancing with another girl. So, I went to hang out with the guy and his friends and figured she'd make her way over. She didn't. Then, she left and left me a car. So, when I got home she was having a fucking pool party with Cara, some guy, her ex Olivia, my headmistress and her girlfriend." "Reg, that doesn't mean she's going to break up with you." "It would make sense. Then, they could have dates with whoever the fuck they wanted." "Regina, please don't cry." "I'm trying. I just.. I love her so much.. I don't want to lose her." "Listen to me. If she loves you, she will not let anything come between you two. Okay?" "But what if she does let
Something come between us." "Then, you'll come back here. You can live with me. Okay? It'll be okay." "I don't want to leave though. I'm in love with her. I don't want to just leave though and come back to life without Emma. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I don't want to lose her." "I know Regina. I know. But, whatever happens is for the best." "I know. I just don't want to lose her." "I know." "I'm sorry I called you so late. Get some sleep. We'll talk tomorrow." "Are you sure?" "Yeah." "Okay. I love you Reg." "I love you too." I said and hung up. I sighed and collapsed against the pillows. I grabbed the tv remote and the movie LOL is playing. I watched it until it ended (10 minutes later) and then watched Cyberbully. Emma came in a few minutes later and sat down on the end of my side of the bed. She stared at me and I raised an eyebrow. We stared at each other for a while. Then, she looked away. "I got really jealous." She said. "Of?" I asked. "You and Cross dancing." She said. I sighed. "So, you danced with someone else. Left me at school. Invited my headmistress and her girlfriend over for a pool party. Oh! And invited your ex girlfriend over. I was jealous as fuck, but all I did was hug him." I said and tears fell from my eyes. "Regina. I'm so sorry." She said, emotionlessly. "Just break up with me. I know how this goes." I spit. She stood up and took a step towards me. Fuck. She's going to hit me. She grabbed my face in her hands and I tensed up. She brought my lips to hers and she kissed me passionately. We're both wearing bikinis and she's slightly damp from the hot tub. She got on top of me and straddled me. She took off my flannel and threw it behind her. We both made quick work of stripping each other, then she straddled me again. She kissed me, hard, and I felt my arousal growing.

I laid half on Emma and half in the bed. She rubbed my back gently with one hand, then held my hand with the other. "How long are you staying?" I asked, quietly. "Until The 14th. So, the day after your graduation." She said. I nodded and she kissed my head. She let go of my hand and grabbed something off the nightstand. "Will you marry me?" She asked, quietly. My eyes went wide and I looked at her. She smiled. "Whattya say?"
