Jason's pov
When we broke up, Jessica got the house so I moved in with her and I'm really glad because this house was where I went when I was feeling down, she'd always pick me up. Unlike the house I shared with Jessica which only brought heartache, lies, and betrayal. I need to stop thinking about it. It's just gonna put me in a bad mood. I look around the room. My wife asleep by my side. Keely and Kendyl both working on homework at the dining room table. Luke texts me about hunting and where to meet him. The new season starts tomorrow and I'm gonna bag us some big bucks.
*the next day*
I pick up my bow and quiver of arrows. "Love ya baby, I'll be back later." I say, kissing her. She smiles. "Don't come back without venison." She jokes. I wave to the girls then climb in Luke's truck. "So how's the best friend turned wife thing working out for ya?" He asks. I smile. "Much better than the first time let me tell you." I say. He laughs and we get to the deer stand. I line my sights on a 9 point in the distance. It's huge. I pull my string taut when all of a sudden another memory hits me.
~flashback~
The day I met Jessica. I was hunting with Miranda. She's pretty darn good. Already beating me. Then I see her. The girl in camo pants and cowboy boots. She was skinning a deer on her tailgate. Looking back now I can see how heartbroken she was when I said I was gonna ask her out. The look of devastation on her face-
~flashback over~
"Jason! Hey man, where did ya go?" Luke gasps, shaking me. "What? What's going on?!" I gasp, letting go of the arrow and completely missed the deer. It ran off too. "What happened just then Jason?" He asks. I stare at my hands that still grip the bow. "I I don't know." I set the bow down. "I've gotta go." I say, quickly getting out of the deer stand. My destination home. Not my new home, my old one. I want answers and I'm gonna get them. I knock on the door and she's obviously shocked to see me. "Come crawling back, I see?" "Ha, fat chance. I wanna know why you did it all these years. I just want to know why then I'll leave and never come back." She grabs my shirt and pulls me inside. "I can't just have one man." She says. "That doesn't make any sense. If you couldn't, why did we get married?" "Because I did love you. Well I do still love you but I know you've moved on." She says. "Yes, I have to someone who is faithful and doesn't go behind my back and hurt me. Someone who really does love me." "I do really love you!" "Jessica if you really loved me you wouldn't have done what you did!" She sighs. "So you really think I never truly loved you?" "That's what it felt like. I begged you to stop doing it but you still did." "What about in high school with her?" She snaps, pointing an accusatory finger at me. "How did you know about that?!" I gape shocked. "You did it too." She says, completely ignoring my question. "I was a kid. You're a grown woman doing this! You shoulda known better than to treat me like some old dishrag you use up and throw away." She nods. "You're right. I treated you terribly and realized too late what I did was wrong. If you give me a chance I promise it'll never happen again!" I laugh. "I have moved on remember?" She grabs my shoulders. "Not if I have anything to say about it." She says then kisses me!!!! Coming here was so stupid!!! I must resist! That age old pull, that yearning to make things right. I push her off me. "No. Don't. Do. That. Ever. Again." I choke out. I drive to the store and call Miranda. She doesn't even have to know about today. "Hey baby girl, I'm at the store getting something for dinner. What should I get?" I ask. "I think we should do fried chicken. I know that's somebody's favorite food." She replies and I can hear the flirt in her voice. I get the stuff and get home. "Hey baby." I say, kissing her passionately, trying to get the disturbing image out of my head from today. She gets the bags and starts on dinner.
Miranda's pov
Jason's real affectionate tonight. He's been kissing me every chance he got. "Baby, you know I love you, right?" "Of course, why would you think otherwise?" I gasp, turning around. "Oh nothin' baby, just want you to know." He whispers, kissing me again. Ok what is up with him tonight? We get the kids to bed after dinner and I sit on my bed while he gets changed. "Jason, you were acting odd tonight." I say. "I was?" He mumbles. "Yeah, you were. What is up? And don't say nothing! I know you too well." I say, pointing as he sits beside me. "You're right baby, you do know me too well." He says, pulling me close and hugging me. "So what is it?" I ask, resting my hands on his chest as we kiss again. "I went to talk to Jessica about some stuff about keeping the girls for thanksgiving and she tried to freaking kiss me! I shoved her away and man did it freak me out!" He says. "Oh so that's why you were extra lovey tonight." I say, smiling. He nods. "Don't worry I'm not mad." He smiles. "Thank goodness. I wasn't sure how to tell you." He says. "Remember you can tell me anything." I say, resting a hand on his cheek and leaning in for another kiss. I love this cowboy alot.
