Jason's pov

I catch up after closing the door. "What did you mean back there?" I ask. She smiles. "Are you gonna tell me?" "I don't know. I think I'll leave you wondering for a few days." "Oh no, you can't do that! It'll drive me crazy!" I gasp. She laughs. "That's the point silly." Ugh, she's really doing this. I am so wondering what she said that was so important. I remember her saying I can come to her for anything but I don't think that's what she's talking about. I scratch my head, trying to think, trying to remember.

I've always loved messing with him like that. It serves him right for telling Luke. Let's see how long it takes before he begs me to tell him. I smile and put in my headphones, cranking up some hank Williams with country boy can survive. Not two seconds in, the door opens. I open one eye. Jason stands in the doorway. I smile. "What's up?" He smiles. "Darlin' you know what's up!" He gasps, making me laugh. I take the headphones out. "You really want me to tell you?" I ask. He nods. "I'm not sure if I should." I say. He glares at me. "I see what you're doing. You're getting me back for telling Luke." He says, pointing at me. I laugh and nod. "Is it driving you crazy?" I ask. "As crazy as a dude on drugs." He says, making me laugh harder. I'm gonna take my time just to mess with him more. He lays down beside me, waiting. I smile down at him. "Ok, I think I've let you stew long enough." I finally say. He sits up quickly. "Finally." "It was right before. Like you said we were both completely drunk......"

He puts on some music. My head feels so heavy. "Hey, I think you've had enough beer." I say, taking it from his hand. He just laughs and sits on the couch. "I'm so glad we're best friends." I say, hugging him. "We are aren't we." He whispers, his chin resting on my head. He sits on the couch and turns on the TV. I sit beside him and he wraps an arm around me. "How long are you gonna put up with her crap?" I ask. "Baby, I don't want to talk about her right now." He says. I laugh. "You called me baby." He shrugs. "You can be my baby if you want to." I try to tell if he's serious but the rational side is dimmed by the beer. He kisses me and I kiss him back. "Let's move this to the bedroom." He whispers, a hand on my arm. "I don't know, Jason." I say. He kisses me again.

*later*

"I might not remember anything tomorrow but I'm glad I did this." He says, holding my hand. I stare at the ceiling, beyond shocked. "Promise me you won't let her control you." I whisper. "No, of course not." He says. "I love you." I'm shocked. He loves me. "Like more than a best friend?" I ask. He nods and falls asleep.

I really said all that. Then I went back to Jessica the next day! She must've been so heartbroken. "Now I bet you wish I didn't tell you." She says. "No, it's not that. I'm just trying to process it all." I'm surprised she still stuck by me through the years. After I hurt her so bad like that. "Jason, don't dwell on it. It was a long time ago and I wouldn't have changed a thing." She snuggles up next to me. She's right. If I didn't go back to Jessica, I wouldn't have my girls. I couldn't live without them. "Everything happens for a reason." She whispers. I smile. "Hey baby, this time I'm gonna remember saying it. I love you." I say, kissing her. "I love you too. And don't forget it." She says.
