The sun had barely risen, and the streets were already crawling with the dirty, the desperate, and the broken. The city, once vibrant with dreams, now felt like a hallow shell, reflecting the wreckage of lives lived in the shadows.
Valentino and Max walked through the streets, Their bodies bruised, their minds tired, but their hearts strangely at peace. They had survived the storm, and for now, that was enough.
Max, his head buried deep in his hoodie, kept his eyes trained on the cracked pavement beneath him. The weight of everything— the betrayal, the violence, the near-death experiences— was heavy on his shoulders. But there was something different now. The suffocating anxiety, the constant fear, it was all starting to lift. He had Valentino beside him, and that was enough. Valentino... the leader of an empire built on blood and lies. The man who could tear a room apart with a single glance.
But right now, Valentino was His, and that was something Max never thought he'd get to have.
Valentino, too, walked with a quiet strength, his broad shoulders pulling the fabric of his jacket taut. His face was harder than it had been before, chiseled by the battles he's fought and won, and the scars no one could see. His eyes, though— those eyes— still held the vulnerability that only Max had ever been allowed to see. Beneath all the violence, beneath all the power, was a man who had loved and lost, who had lived through fire, and who would burn the world down for the people he cared about.
"Where are we going?" Max asked, his voice rough, like it had been swallowed by the grit of the streets.
Valentino didn't answer immediately. Instead, he pulled his keys from his pocket and started up the old motorcycle that had been gathering dust in his garage. It was a machine built for speed, for power, for escape. It growled to life as he revved the engine, the sound shaking through Max's bones. There was something so fitting about the bike. It was like Valentino himself— untamed, unpredictable, and constantly in motion. A living, breathing contradiction.
"We're getting out of here," Valentino said, his voice low. His gaze flicked to Max, the look in his eyes soft, despite the cold edge of his words. "I don't want to stay here. Not anymore."
Max nodded, stepping forward, the offer of freedom a balm to the wounds of his mind. Valentino's hand extended, and Max took it without hesitation, sliding onto the back of the motorcycle. He wrapped his arms around Valentino's waist, pressing his cheek to his leather jacket, the comforting scent of him filling Max's senses.
They didn't speak as the engine roared to life again, and the world blurred around them. The city passed by in flashes— neon signs, abandoned buildings, streetlights flickering out as the day began to creep into night. They were in motion, heading toward something, but Max didn't know what. Maybe it didn't matter. For once, it was just the two of them. That was enough.
The wind hit Max's face like a slap, but he welcomed it. The rawness of it made him feel alive. He could still hear Kyle's voice, faintly, in the back of his mind, telling him to hold on, to keep going. And he would. He had to.
They didn't talk much, not until they hit the outskirts of town, and the grime of the city gave way to the isolation of the outskirts. The roads narrowed, the buildings faded into empty fields, and the hum of the world around them became quieter. Valentino finally slowed the bike, pulling into an abandoned lot beside an old warehouse.
It was like something out of a nightmare. Rusted steel doors, broken windows, and walls that had been scarred by time and neglect. The kind of place where you wouldn't ask questions, and no one would ask you for answers.
Valentino killed the engine, the sudden silence pressing in around them. Max felt the weight of the place seep into his bones.
"This place...."
"This is where we lay low for a while," Valentino said, his voice carrying the gravitas of someone who had made a decision that couldn't be undone. "Until we figure out where we're going next. Where I go next."
Max couldn't tell if he was talking about himself or the life he was supposed to lead. The mafia. His father. The empire that was slowly crumbling under the weight of betrayal and violence.
Max got off the bike, his legs shaky, the adrenaline still buzzing in his veins. He glanced around, feeling the starkness of the place seep into his skin. They were in the depths of something, a world they couldn't escape from, no matter how hard they ran.
Valentino took a deep breath, like he was trying to shake off the burden of it all. "I don't want this life anymore. I don't want to be the man my father made me."
Max raised an eyebrow. "What, you think you can just walk away? Just like that?"
Valentino's eyes flickered. "I've been trying to walk away for years, Max. But every time I try, it pulls me back. My father's influence is everywhere. He owns half the city, and no one leaves the family without paying the price."
Max swallowed hard, the gravity of Valentino's words settling over him. This wasn't just a game for him. This was survival. And every step Valentino took in that world was a step deeper into the darkness.
Valentino stepped closer, his gaze intense.
"But I have you now. And I'm not losing you, Max. Not to my father. Not to anyone."
Max felt a warmth spread through him at those words, but there was a gnawing fear in his stomach too. They couldn't outrun Michael forever. He knew that. But he would follow Valentino anywhere, even if it meant walking into fire.
"Let's get out of here then," Max said, his voice steady, his grip tightening around Valentino's hand. "Before it catches up with us."
Valentino's lips quirked into a smile, but it was a smile touched by the shadows of their past. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a crumpled packet of cigarettes, lighting one before tossing the lighter towards Max.
"You're not a perfect man, Valentino," Max said, his eyes searching Valentino's face, "but you're mine."
Valentino exhaled a cloud of smoke, his gaze softening. "And you're mine, Max."
They stood in the dim light of the warehouse, the weight of everything they'd survived hanging heavy in the air. The city, the mafia, the violence— they were all still there, but in that moment, it didn't matter. Not yet.
Max's heart beat loudly in his chest as he took one last look at the life they were leaving behind. together, they would walk into whatever came next. And whatever it was, they would face it side by side.
