"Okay, keep going... almost there." Gerard said to me, his hands over my eyes as he guided me to the 'surprise'.
It was cold, and an icy breeze blew. I didn't know where I was,I fell asleep on the drive here, and when I woke up, Gerard covered my eyes so I wouldn't know. I carefully placed each foot as I stepped forward, I Gerard wouldn't let me trip and hurt myself but I still did.
"Where.... Where are we, Gerard?" I asked once again.
"You'll see soon." He replied.
I sighed and we continued to walk for another five minutes.
"Okay, open." He said, removing his hands from my eyes and placing them on my shoulder from behind.
What I saw when I opened my eyes was breath taking.
The sun was low in the sky and a white layer of snow rested on the ground. We were right by a lake. The water reflected sunset off of it like a mirror. All the colors were beautiful. Blue turned to pink, and pink to a soft purple, to orange, to a yellow then back to blue. There was a bridge out to a little building thingy, I forget what they're called.
"So..?" Gerard said with an eager face.
I tried to say something but the words didnt seem to want to come out. Gerard noticed and took my hand with a soft smile on his face. He pulled me over in the direction of the bridge. We walked down it. Snow and ice created a slick surface on the wood, which made slipping easier, which is what I did. slipped and couldve fallen in the water had Gerard not caught me.
"T-thanks." I muttered, slightly embarrassed.
"It's not problem." He replied. "I wouldn't want you falling in."
We got to the building, it was small, probably about 7x7 or around there.
We were out on the lake without being in a boat or in the water. And it was cold, I could see my breath. I wrapped my arms around myself and rubbed my hand up and down my arm.
I leaned against the railing and looked out onto the water, the sun was even lower in the sky now. Gerard leaned against it as well and kept looking at me. I glanced over at him a few times but kept looking at the water.
"It's beautiful." I said.
"Yeah." Gerard agreed.
He grabbed onto my hand and I felt my heart rate increase. "They're so cold." He said.
I breathed a laugh and watch the fog from it disappear. "Yeah, well, it's... It's pretty cold out here."
He placed a hand on the side of my face and my cheeks turned red. "Sheesh, you're so cold." He took off his jacket and threw it over my shoulders. "There you go."
"Thank... Thank you."
We both turned out to look at the water and the last light of the day. As the sun slowly sunk into the lake, I couldn't help but smile a little. It was so pretty. I looked up at Gerard, his expression was peaceful and happy. He looked so much better than that day. Then he looked hurt, scared and tired, worn down by everything in the world that goes wrong, struggling to find a single ray of light in a dark place. He didn't look peaceful, he looked afraid, he didn't look happy, he looked... Broken.
I had thought alot about what would have happened to him if I didn't come in when I did. He wouldn't be here. He was so close to leaving me forever and I never, ever want to lose him.
I realized now that I was starring when he met my gaze and laughed. I felt myself blush and I looked away.
"Sorry." I apologized.
"There's nothing to be sorry about." He assured me, moving a little closer.
I glanced up at him a few times, each time his eyes were on me and a small smile was on his lips. I looked up again and he placed a hand on my chin and slowly pulled me closer. My heart was racing and my cheeks were bright pink.
His lips softly met mine. One of the first things that ran through my head was "pull away", but I didn't. Everything this boy has done for me, every tear he wiped from my eyes meant so much to me. At first, the thought of someone wanting to help me horrified me, because I was scared that they'd try but end up hurting me more. But after my aunt died, what he did for me. It changed my life. He was always there for me and no one had ever done that for me.
I care about him, so much. I knew he cared about me, but now I knew that he felt the same way about me as I do towards him.
We gently pulled away from each other and just looked at each other. He smiled at me and a smile tugged on the corner of my lips as well.
