Mad Love

Chapter 12

We arrived at the casino at 7:15 and the city was lit up with all of its lights. The casino was enormous and very fancy looking, joker didn't seem to want anyone to dress for the occasion.
The joker gestured for his men to hurry up, they were all wearing their clown masks once again. Joker then led us all into the building. Upon entering everyone's head turned to face us, the casino was silent for only a moment until the joker started moving forward, grinning from ear to ear. He probably loved all the attention.
"I'm meeting someone so you all just wait out here until I need 'assistance'." Joker then whispered something to one of his men and walked towards a flight of stairs leading to the level above us. I looked around as the casino was once again alive with music and many laughing and talking people. I had never gambled or even been to a casino so all of it seemed crazy. I also felt a little uncomfortable being left alone with the joker's men. Not that anybody had a problem with me, but it was a lot to take in. I sat myself down at a table that seemed vacant but it's not like I could have gotten a drink or even gambled since I was only 19. I sighed, it was really boring having nothing to do so I decided to check out what the joker's men were doing. Most of them were talking to some of the women who were around and the others were gambling or drinking at the bar. I walked over to one of them who didn't seem too occupied by anything.
"Hi, um...your one of the joker's henchmen I'm guessing." I'm not very good at talking to people when I feel awkward.
"Gee, what gave it away?" The man said sarcastically behind his mask.
"Um..." I felt stupid but decided to keep talking, it was this or nothing.
"Why did the joker spray paint that old building?"
"You serious?" He turned toward me, clearly annoyed.
"Yeah." I guess I should act a little braver than normal around joker's men.
"It's because of the batman."
"The what?" That was the weirdest name I'd ever heard of, maybe I heard him wrong.
"Yeah, he may not sound like such a threat, the joker didn't think so at first either, but trust me, he's the joker's biggest threat and enemy. Joker wants to be the one to do the pleasure of killing him, so stay out of his way."
"What is the batman?"
"He wears a black bat-suit, a cape, and his mask has little ears on it. And you wonder why the joker thinks he's amusing." He chuckled for a moment and then cleared his throat. "He's pretty hard to take down so if you ever find yourself in a dark alley by yourself and he shows up, you may as well just call the cops and turn yourself in." The man then started to walk away.
"What's your name?" I asked, I wanted to get to know a few of the henchmen just so next time I'm without the joker I'll have someone to talk to.
"It's Nick." He then disappeared into a crowd of gamblers. I then turned my attention to upstairs, what was the joker doing up there, did he need help? I started up the stairs and I saw that there was a small window I could look through and what I saw terrified me!
