The joker laughed excitedly as we escaped the party in his stolen helicopter.
"We did it Harley! I've never seen a plan like that work so beautifully! I knew you were the right girl for the job!" He then ran over to me and grabbed my shoulders, man he was in a good mood. I blushed and looked away.
"Whateva' makes ya happy boss." I had just killed someone. I've never killed anyone before! Sure judge Castillo deserved it but...I dunno, it just made me feel terrible inside.
"What's wrong?" Joker asked, his smile fading.
"Oh, nothin. Um...you should thank Nick! He's the one who made your plan perfect." I looked around for Nick, he was nowhere in sight. He must be on one of the other trucks or something.
We arrived back at jokers warehouse in a matter of minutes. I exited the helicopter in silence. All of jokers men were talking amongst themselves and patting me on the back as they passed. I once again looked around for Nick but couldn't find him. Where could he be? Hopefully he was okay but what if that bat man thing got him. I now see why he's the arch enemy of the joker.
"Coming inside Harley?" Joker waved at me.
"Y-yeah, I'll be there in a minute. Um...do ya happen to have a motorcycle or somethin'?"
"Yes, I think I do. Why?"
"I kinda want to take a little drive, clear my mind a bit. Is that okay?"
"Of course, you just pulled off one of the greatest heists I've made in less than a day. Tonight you get to do whatever you want!" The jokers words were kind but the way he spoke and his body language told me different. He seemed troubled and I'd better stay on his good side tonight.
"It's in the garage right?" I asked cautiously.
"Mhm." He watched me as I headed to the garage. I gave a sigh of relief as soon as I turned the corner. There was a white sheet covering something towards the back. Underneath was a black Yamaha XS 650 1974. My dad and I once built a motorcycle just like this together. I'd only ridden one a few times and I considered myself pretty good. I grabbed an oversized trench coat that most likely belonged to the joker as some form of protection from the cold and rain that had began to fall, and a grappling hook just in case I needed an easy exit. The garage door opened with the click of a button and I only had a few seconds to get out before the door closed on me. The motorcycle let out a rumble as I turned the key and just like that I sped off into the night. Gotham city was a few minutes away, it's lights were twinkling. I had never really gotten a chance to get a good look at the city since I worked at Arkham. It truly was one of the most beautiful sights I had ever seen.
Once I got into the city I parked the motorcycle in an alley next to an apartment building that I soon recognized as my own! My floor was a few stories up, I wondered if anyone had noticed my absence since I left. The grappling hook shot out and hooked onto the top banister just below the roof of the building. Thunder rolled over head and I was soaked. I pulled up to my apartment window which someone was now living in, a little old woman was asleep on her couch. The TV was turned on, it looked like the news. With further inspection the news headline was "Party crashers on the loose: batman saves the day again". A photo of me and the joker popped up, I was holding a gun towards the crowd and joker was laughing. Another photo popped up, it was of judge Castillo and how "a woman wearing a red and black checkered suit viciously murders a local judge, jokers new sidekick? Girlfriend, or a new villain?" I would've been worried about the cops finding me, but I was just focused on the memories of my old life and what I had left behind. I pulled myself up using the grappling hook to the top banister. I then unhooked the hook and flipped onto the roof. Once there I got an amazing view of the city. Even though I was wet and cold I was happy. The city never looked brighter and more beautiful than tonight, the moment was just perfect. Of course anything sweet could turn sour at any time.
