"Hey!" I was greeted by a young girl with red curly hair pulled into a ponytail, she was much taller than me and very pretty.
"Hey! Jessica right?" I asked.
"Yup. I just came to assign you a job that Frannie wanted me to give you."
"Okay, what is it?" Curiosity began to overwhelm me.
"You get to work with one of the patients!" Jessica seemed quite excited about it, but I began to feel nervous. It has been 2 days since I last saw the joker, and our last encounter wasn't my favorite.
"Who?" I asked.
"Patient 28... Um 3... Uh, never mind, it's the joker." Jessica stammered out. My face fell, I felt like passing out.
"Why did she give me...him?!"
"I don't know, maybe it's because you've actually talked to him. Oh and your scheduled to meet with him tomorrow night." Jessica then turned and walked away.I spent the rest of my "day off" in classes at Gotham University dreading tomorrow night. I feared the joker more than anything, and now I am assigned to him, who knows how many other times I have to meet with him. All of these thoughts overwhelmed me and that was when I passed out.
The next day turned to night in a flash and I had to go meet with the joker. My stomach was in knots and my hands were so shaky that I could barely swipe my keycard. As I did so the gates swung open and I slowly made my way towards the asylum. As I reached the enormous building, I was almost hit by the door as Frannie came out.
"Oh, sorry! I... Uh, good luck with 2467- the joker. I know your the right person for the job!" With that Frannie left in a hurry, running to her car and driving off. I then entered the building and grabbed my lab coat, ring of keys, and a interview clipboard. I then hurried to the dangerous area and used the ring of keys. Upon entering I felt very light headed and grabbed the wall for support. I then slowly made my way towards the joker, trying to clear my mind of all the terrible thoughts that popped up about what could go wrong.
I soon reached his cell and prayed it was empty so I could leave, but it wasn't, he was there, his hands and feet were tied to a bed, and there was a chair set up next to it. He didn't seem to be bothered or angry, his face was blank. He looked a little better than yesterday, his hair was combed and his "face paint" didn't look much different from yesterday.
I knew he was just waiting for me, and that didn't ease my worry whatsoever. I gave a small sigh and unlocked the door. I had expected him to be moved to another room, but I guessed he was a bit too stubborn.
"Well if it isn't miss Harleen Quinzel." The joker said, not looking up.
"How'd you guess?" I asked tiredly.
"I saw some people who were talking about you."
"Oh really? Well we're not here to talk about them, we're here to talk about you and your 'issues'." I tried to sound as professional as I could without looking scared in the slightest way.
"Ah." He replied cooly, giving off a small smirk as if he thought the whole situation was amusing.
"Now your real name is." I started off with the first question that was listed on my clipboard.
"I've already gone through this whole worksheet three times over, I'm not going to do it a fourth." The joker said tiredly. I guessed that he wanted me to ask him questions that no one had asked before.
