"Wishes of the almost death."

It seemed as if he was holding you tighter than usually. It seemed as if his hands were trembling while he rubbed your back. It seemed as if his body was shaking when he pulled you to his chest.
"Kol?" You looked up at him and noticed there were tears in his eyes. You had never seen him crying before. Kol Mikaelson didn't cry. "What's wrong?" You placed your hand on his chest and you couldn't hide the fear. If Kol Mikaelson was crying, everything was wrong.
"Not now, darling." He whispered and he closed his eyes. The soft music was filling your ears and you moved along while Kol kept on dancing.
"You know you can trust me with anything, right?" You stood still again and stared at him. Everyone kept on saying that Kol wasn't capable of falling in love. Everyone kept on telling you that he was using you, just like he had been using everyone else he had ever pretended to love. Maybe he wasn't the prince charming you had always wished for. Maybe he wasn't as in love with you as you were with him. It didn't matter.
"I don't want to ruin the night, dear." He smiled, but the smile seemed forced and his eyes weren't smiling along.
"You're never ruining a night." You whispered and you placed your hand on his cheek. His cheek felt warm, as if he was sweating and you frowned your eyebrows.
"Trust me, this one will ruin the night." He sighed and he placed a hand on yours. It was as if he tried to enjoy every moment to the fullest. It was as if he tried to make memories to hold onto when he would needed them the most.
"Then please, ruin it." You swallowed. A part of you knew that you were going to regret it. Another part of you knew that if you truly loved him you had to be there in good and in bad times.
"One more moment." He whispered and he held out his hand for one last dance. You sighed, placing your hand in his. The next moment you were twirling around on the dance floor. "Thank you..." He whispered, his lips touching your ear, while a tear escaped his eye.
"Kol, what's wrong with you?" You used your thumb to wipe the tear away, leaning on the tips of your toes, trying to stare as straight into his eyes as possible.
"I've tried to be a hero." He smiled as if he had just made a bad joke, but something in his voice made crystal clear that it was not a joke, that it was everything but a joke.
"And?" You frowned your eyebrows.
"I've got caught and my own brother casted a hex on me." He bent his head and for a moment you didn't say anything. You knew what it meant. You had seen it with father Kieran. You had hoped that you would never see it again.
"Kol..." You tried to say something, but stopped in the middle of your sentence.
"It's okay. I'm dancing with the prettiest girl in my arms." He pressed a kiss on your lips while he was smiling through his tears. "I'll die a happy man."
