"Really? It's two in the morning and you choose to have a fever now?" you groan, as you felt you little sister's forehead.

"It's not just that, my head hurts like mad too!" she whined. "Do we have some painkillers?"

"I'll check," you said, padding out into the kitchen and checking the cabinets, only to find no medicine. You walked back to your sister, and told her: "Look, there isn't any medicine left so I'm going out to get some, okay? The convenient store down the street is open twenty-four hours anyway. If I'm not back in thirty minutes, call the cops." Anyone who dared step a foot out of their house after ten o'clock in Gotham would be considered insane. But what could you do? After you lost your parents you had vowed to take care of your little sister; you couldn't lose her too. You grabbed your hoodie and shouted, "Stay in here!" to your sister before closing the door. You felt around in your pocket. Your fingertips brushed lightly against leather: it was the sheath that contained your dagger. Ever since you were young, your father had given you the dagger, taught you how to use it and to never leave home without it, seeing as the crime rate in Gotham was sky high. Besides, Batman wasn't going to be able to protect you all the time; a girl got to be her own hero.

You stepped onto the chilly night and started walking. The street was completely deserted and dark; no one was in sight. Faintly, you could hear some screaming and some shouts. You shuddered. They were probably thugs, or muggers. Thinking about this, you quickened your pace, wanting to get this done and over with as soon as possible.

CONVENIENT STORE, OPENED 24/7 were the words that met your eyes in big, neon pink as you made a left turn. The letter "C" had faded away, though. You walked inside, and immediately headed to the medicine aisle. Grabbing a few packets of painkillers and some fever medicine, you walked to the counter and paid. Grabbing the bag, you stuffed it into your hoodie's pocket and started for home. When you were about three blocks away, you heard some heavy footsteps behind you. Heart racing, your pace quickened. Your hand instinctively reached for the dagger and pulled it out of its sheath. A loud crash was heard as cars crashed into each other behind you--you started to run. Unfortunately, the person behind you was much faster and had caught you in no time. He pinned you left arm behind you, his right hand holding on to a deadly knife and he was pressing it against your throat. Fear coursed through your veins and you dared not move a muscle. Your right hand, which still held the dagger, was behind you back and bent in an awkward angle. If you could just move it up, maybe you could jab him...

And that was what you did. You pushed the dagger upward as hard as you could, and heard a scream erupt from the man's throat. At once, he had let go of you and you spun around, your fighting instincts kicking in. You got into fighting stance as you examined him. He was tall and built, his eyes were sunken in and his lip was cut and bloody. Bruises caked his face and you had apparently stabbed him in the forearm. It was a deep cut, you could tell, but it was deep enough to draw blood. You heard a ziiip and another figure landed beside him. Impulsively, you jumped forward and kicked him in the face (he let out a grunt) and then the gut. After few more kicks and punches, you had gained enough advantage to press your dagger against his throat, too.

With narrowed eyes, you asked, "Who are you?"

"I'm--I'm Red Arrow!" he gasped.

"Really?" you asked, obviously not convinced. "And what is Red Arrow doing in Gotham?"

"Green Arrow and I-- We had came here to--to catch Deathstroke."

You relaxed your grip a little. "And why--"

"MOVE!" he shouted, shoving you out of the way.

You fell to the ground, hard. Looking up, you saw that the man that attacked you before had stabbed Red Arrow in the shoulder. If he hadn't shoved you away in time, that would've been your heart.

The man, obviously having had his fun, took off.

You didn't care. You rushed forward to help Red Arrow. "That's a pretty bad wound. Look, I'll take you home, and clean this up, okay? Least I can do; you just saved my life." Not waiting for an answer, you started to drag him home.

"You should be fine, now," you said as you finally finished bandaging his shoulder up.

"Yeah, I think." He moved his arm up and down, grunting slightly. "A little sore but I think I can survive," he chuckled.

"Just change the gauze and bandage when you see it bloody," you told him. "And don't reopen the wound."

"Why would I?" he said, standing up. You stood up, too. He was almost a head taller than you. "Thank you, uh--"

"[Y/N]."

"Thank you, [Y/N]," he whispered, leaning down slightly.

Your heart started fluttering and like you were under a spell or something, you started to tip-toe, leaning you head up---

Ri-i-ing!

You snapped out of your reverie, realising what you were doing. Blushing furiously, you stumbled away and reached for the phone. You saw through your peripheral vision that he was flushing, too. "Um, hello?"

"Hi, um, is Candy there?" an unfamiliar, raspy voice asked from the other end.

"No, sorry, wrong number," you said, hanging up. You turned back, to see Red Arrow staring at you. You let out a nervous laugh. "I suppose you'd have to leave?"

"Yeah," Red Arrow said, picking up his bow. "Thanks for all the help, [Y/N]."

"Don't mention it," you say, sounding perfectly normal but inside, you felt disappointed that you never kissed him. You walked him to the door and opened it for him. "Goodbye."

"Goodbye isn't good enough."

"What d'you mea--"

Before you could complete your sentence, you felt a pair of lips against yours, shutting you up. He's kissing me; oh my gosh he's kissing me! Butterflies erupted in your stomach and you couldn't comprehend everything. Your mind was foggy and you couldn't think straight. This should never end, you thought as you kissed him back. Your arms wrapped around his neck and pulled him in closer.

"Looks like I'll be coming back to Gotham a lot more," Red Arrow mumbled against your lips.
