". . ." you sighed as you made your way to school. You weren't looking forward to it. What was there to look forward to, anyway? It was valentine's day, and you didn't have a date. All day, it'd just be couples kissing, hugging, whatever everywhere. It was kind of just like a smack in the face, a reminder that you were still single.

You switched your phone off and slipped it into your pocket, smiling despite yourself. You just had to survive six hours of school . . . It's not that hard, right?

You through the hallways, keeping your eyes trained on your shoes as you made your way to your locker. First period was Chemistry, and your books were lying in your locker. You keyed in your passcode and swung the door open. You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding when you saw that there weren't roses, cards or anything inside. Somehow, a part of you was hoping someone was going to surprise you on valentine's. Apparently not.

You were the first in class, and you took your usual seat at the back by the window. As more people streamed in, you observed how the trees swayed with the wind and how the birds flew after each other.

When the chattering stopped and the teacher entered, you straightened up and focused your attention on her.

"What the hell?" you muttered as a ball of paper landed squarely on your desk. You looked around the room, but everyone was still attentively listening to the lesson. You picked it up, slowly unfolding it. Your heart rate picked up - could someone be asking you out?

[Y/N],
would you be my valentine's?
- conner k.

You felt yourself blush as you read the note. The bell rang, and you jumped slightly. You packed your things messily - your mind wasn't thinking straight and you felt lightheaded.

"Conner! Wait!" you cried out as you ran after him through the hallway.

He stopped, and you weaved your way through a mass of students to get to him.

"Yes . . . I'll be your . . . I'll be your valentine," you breathed out, meeting his eyes and grinning.

He out let a tiny smile, fumbling in his bag for awhile.

"For you," he said, holding up a single red rose.

". . .Thank you, Conner," you whispered, accepting the rose and sniffing it. "It's beautiful."

"Just like you."

You blushed, giggling a little. "Come on, let's go to Maths together." You took a hold of his hand gently, interlocking your fingers.

You started making your way to class, laughing and talking the whole way. So this is how it feels like to have a valentine, you thought as he placed a gently kiss on your forehead, murmuring, "I like you, a lot."

if you're wondering why I didn't make Conner kiss Reader, it's because I think (personally) Conner isn't very good with romance stuff and he's unsure of what to do. he's also not confident about kissing you, and he's a little shy. So . . . yeah.

I didn't make him say I love you becAuse I feel it'd be rushed, and honestly, love takes a long time to build up & stuff. you don't just ask someone out and immediately proclaim you love them. it's not how it works :)
