6 - This Girl, Seriously

I woke up on a bed that was not mine, on a dwelling that was not mine, on a planet that was not mine, hugging (well, holding) a girl who is not mine (yet) and I believe in all my 210 years of existence I have not slept that soundly.

I loosen my hold on the girl and thought of the bath. I need to clean up and disguise myself as one of them for a while. I go to the bath chamber, remove my clothing and step into the glass box.

Nothing happens.

I see some shiny knobs and turn it and water started to flow from the mechanism. I did not find the buttons that we had in our planet but I saw some a bottle labeled 'shampoo' and 'body scrub'. These Earth folks are strange, using poo as a form of hygiene... Although the poo smells quite nice... Maybe because it is a sham?

I used the body scrub and the poo that is a sham and when I felt relatively washed, I stepped out and wrapped the fluffy, long cloth around my waist.

I changed into what she prepared for me. This must belong to her guardian... (Sir, I'll be borrowing these) The top relatively fits well, but the bottom cannot cover my ankles. The footwear seems to be alright. I tiptoed out of the chamber, into the bed room. Astrid is still sleeping. As much as I want to go back to her side, there are some things I must do.

As soon as I stepped out the door, I was attacked by a gust of wind. I say attacked because I know who sent that wind.

Finally! I was searching for you the whole time! 0522 blew a fuse, figuratively speaking. He blew the water pipes literally though. And 0112 kept giving everyone his evil glare. Why aren't you back yet?!

I... Cannot.

You cannot? Or you don't want to?

... My power has not returned sufficiently to warrant an uneventful return.

... I cannot comprehend why you used your power to save an Earth folk.

I cannot, either. But when I saw her jn danger, I just acted.

I felt his though speak end and his presence fade. I then proceeded to forage for food. After asking about, I gathered that I can go to 'fast food joints' or even 'seven elevens' for convenience or go to grocery stores for fresh goods. I opted for freshness.

When I entered the grocery store, I was awestruck. There were fresh goods and goods that came in cans and goods that you 'pop in an oven or microwave and voila it is ready to eat'. I saw some four wheeled vehicles and I proceeded to ride it but it does not move. After some clarification from a male whonwas collecting these, 'trolleys' were supposed to be pushed and you place your things inside. I got a sample of those goods in cans and stick into microwave goods, packaged liquid from bovines, fruits and vegetables and carted it to the payment person.

"How will you be paying for these sir?" He eyed the pile I had with raised eyebrows.

Oh. How would I be paying for these..?

I sensed a sliver of thought in my mind.

Use your Sapphire card. I had some of it converted to Earth currency.

You have some explaining to do when you get back.

You terrorized 0412 with your evil glare, I mean lovely stare, did you not?

That poor boy tried his best. Do not worry. I will keep it from 0522.

I give the man my card and when he rang the purchase and swiped the card, his machine started beeping, attracting the attention of his superior.

"What in the blazes-?"

The payment person just pointed at the machine, his eyes wide. When the superior checked it, his eyes widened as well and they started to personally carry my purchases, gave me some 'freebies' and told me to come again. Such nice folks.

I thanked them and started walking with my purchases. When I saw a reasonably well hidden alley, I closed my eyes and imagined Astrid's dwelling.

When I opened my eyes, I was there, but the house seemed devoid of her presence.

"Astrid? ASTRID!"

There was no reply. I checked the rooms and she was not there.

I started to have this sense of foreboding. I went outside and projected my thoughts to him with all my mind.

0412!

58 deer, 59 deer, 60 deer, 61 deer...

WAKE UP!

What what where is the deer?

0412, SHE IS MISSING! I NEED YOUR HELP!

Alright, alright! I will send the winds out!

I teleported to the beach and I could not find her. Astrid, where are you?

She is safe, she is at the NO, DO NOT!

The thought transmission was cut, as if 0412 suddenly rushed to do something.

0412?

... Give me a minute to calm down. This female just shortened my life span by 300 years.

You shortened my life span by 500!

I'll take her to you.

A few moments later, I felt the wind pick up speed and I saw him descend with her in his arms. He was a sight to behold. He had translucent wings made of winds that gently flapped until he touched the ground, where it spread and dispersed into a gentle breeze.

"That was amazing. You have grown."

"That was exhausting."

His hair was still tousled from sleep, his eyes were quite red. He was wearing a long, red, knitted cloth on his neck.

"Thank you for saving her."

As he was about to give the girl to me, I felt his arms shake - from the effort or the power he had to used. I gently grabbed his wrists and Astrid was now situated between us. I locked eyes with him and he closed his eyes, and so did I.

And then we were gone.
