Chapter 12 - Melissandre's Wrath

Kai's POV

So... You are Astrid's friends.

"You. You are supposed to be dead." I say.

She turns to me, Melissandre does. She and Astrid looks so uncannily alike. She smiles a feral smile then disappears. I felt a slap on my face. She was then in front of me.

Cheeky kid. Of course I am dead. The fact that you are seeing this is proof of that. I left this for you. Train my sister well. And Stay. Alive. Leave no man behind.

"Like you left Suho?" Baekhyun replies.

Her expression hardened. She disappears and Baekhyun started screaming. We see a burn mark on his clothes and on his chest in the shape of a hand, similar to the branding made on animals.

Do not test me. You are within my memory. The only way to live is if you can surpass me. That is how you will prove your worth as Cassidy's teachers.

"What... What if we do not want to be her teacher?" muttered Baekhyun.

She disappears again and in an instant, reappears, this time carrying Baekhyun.

"NO!" I teleport to where they were and before I can reach them, she disappears.

"KAI, LOOK!" Sehun yelled.
"BAEKHYUN!" Chanyeol cried out, pointing.
Baekhyun was hurled towards the ocean. We see Melissandre closing her eyes and the sky began forming clouds. DO grabs her and pins her hands to the sides. Without breaking her chant, she flips DO onto his back. DO wheezes, the air knocked out of him. Xiumin froze her, but she melts his ice and breaks out quickly.

"Do you know what happens when a person is hit by lightning?" She suddenly asks.

Our eyes widen with realization.

"Sehun! Chen! Come with me! Chanyeol, Xiumin, DO, buy us time! Lay, get away from the fighting and await us to heal Baekhyun!"

I grab Sehun and Chen and I teleport them to where Baekhyun was lighting up and struggling to stay afloat. Sehun calls the winds to keep us aloft. Before we can get Baekhyun, lightning comes down directly at us. Chen manages to stop it in time, but the effort was too much. He collapses, his breathing heavy. The second lightning strike comes down.

"GO! SEHUN! TAKE BAEKHYUN AND CHEN AND GO!"

"I WON'T LEAVE YOU BEHIND!"

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"

Sehun's POV
We were waiting for the second lightning strike. Only it never came. What I saw amazed me.

Kai was standing up and pointing his finger at Melissandre. Suddenly lightning came out of nowhere and managed to strike her left arm before she teleported away. She screamed, and at that moment, Xiumin tried freezing her again. She still managed to break out but her injured arm was encased in ice. At the same time, we noticed a large bird carrying Baekhyun on one claw and Chen on the other. But that wasn't what caught our attention.

The bird was made entirely of fire.

I felt the strains of keeping the winds at bay, and my hold on them started to loosen. Kai was sweating profusely, but he took a look at my face, held my hand, and teleported back to the beach. We both collapsed there. The bird, upon releasing Baekhyun and Chen beside us, disappeared, and Chanyeol reappeared and also collapsed.

DO and Xiumin ran towards us - DO bruised and Xiumin gasping for breath. Lay started healing Baekhyun.

"That did not go so well." Lay said. No one said anything. Melissandre was the strongest opponent any of us ever faced.

"Of course it did not. You were fighting me after all."

We turn to the voice and see Melissandre coming towards us. Chen was still unconscious and Lay was still healing Baekhyun. Kai, Xiumin, Chanyeol, DO and I were exhausted.

Suddenly, we started levitating in mid - air.

"Did you really think you could defeat me with those kinds of skills?"

"No. But this might." Baekhyun said defiantly.

She turned to Baekhyun.

Close your eyes! He thought spoke.

"I can not see! What sorcery is this?!"

Now Kai!

Kai teleported to DO then Xiumin, and teleported to Melissandre. He then carried Melissandre in his arms and teleported the three of them on the beach. He then dropped her into the water.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! WHY CAN I NOT SEE -"

"Good - bye Melissandre. You have taught us well." Kai said.

Xiumin touched the water while DO held his shoulder.

The ocean, along with Melissandre, froze.

I managed to call some winds to levitate Lay, Chanyeol, Baekhyun and Chen before they dropped to the ground. Xiumin, DO, and Kai collapsed. We carried them away from the water's edge. Baekhyun and I collected firewood and Chanyeol built a fire and started cooking a meal. Lay continued to heal Chen amd the three.

"Kai? How did you do that? And Baekhyun and Chanyeol, what were those skills? Xiumin, how did you freeze the whole ocean?" I asked.

Kai opened his eyes exhaustedly. "I... I knew Chen could not stop it and we can not move in time. So I... Teleported the lightning strike back to Melissandre. But to do that, I needed some contact first." He showed us his blackened hand.

"I will heal that in a while, Kai." Lay said

"You need light to see. I just gave more light than what we are accustomed to, thereby rendering her sight useless." Said Baekhyun.

"Mine was... The phoenix is a bird of fire. Rebirth. I just transformed into it. It was under my element after all." Chanyeol added.

"Ordinarily, I can not freeze such a large amount..." Xiumin started.

"... But when I poured my strengh to him, it potentiated his power." DO said.

"... And I froze the whole ocean." Finished Xiumin.

I looked at my brothers, their faces tired and drawn but determined.

I need to become stronger.

We all do.

"That was a good fight. You guys passed." Said a voice from behind us.

We turned and saw Melissandre, but she was fine. Her clothes have already dried, but her arm was still injured.

Let me help you with that.

She went to Lay and placed her hand on his shoulder. Lay's power suddenly surged, covering us with a translucent bubble. We felt stronger and refreshed.

"Melissandre! You're disappearing!"

Of course. I'm only a memory after all. But here is my last gift to some of you. Train well. Train my sister well. Live. Survive. Save Suho.

She faded, leaving six glowing orbs. They went to Kai, Chanyeol, DO, Chen... And me. One orb disappeared.
