Chapter 17 - Lay's Secret

ASTRID's POV

The firelight flickers. Kai steps in front of me and then disappears. He reappears behind me and was about to stab me with his weapon when I also disappear and reappear behind him, stabbing down some Light Rods on the hem of his pants. He drops his knife and it disappears and I sidestep in time, avoiding his dagger which was hurtling towards me, and it grazes his side instead. Blood started to run. I approach him and form two more Light rods and place one in front and behind him. "Light Rod Prison," I say, and the rods grow in length, now standing up to 3 feet, trapping Kai inside.

"That was a good performance, Kai. However, you took for granted that I did not have Teleport. I picked Baekhyun to pair with you, not based on strength, but on speed. Because admittedly, the speed of light is fast. And never let go of your weapon until it's all over." I take a Light Rod out and the others disappear. I press my hand to his side, and it heals immediately. "Thank you for volunteering, Kai. Who's next?"

Sehun then steps up, almost confidently. He then starts to hover in midair. "How can you catch what you cannot hold, Astrid? And I know you do not have Strength, because Melissandre had that. You do not have Teleport or Fire or Lightning or Wind. What will... you... do." Sehun's eyes widen as we both stood in midair.

"Well, it's true that I don't have those. But I also have one that can make us fight on even 'ground'. I have Flight. How long can the winds hold you up, Sehun?"

10 minutes later, I had cuts on me, but I was still hovering while Sehun was on the ground sweating profusely. I healed myself and healed him as well, and he stood next to Kai. "First, don't ever underestimate your opponent. Observe first. Next, the wind is a bulky thing, unless if you can shape it into a sharper weapon. Form a weapon out of it that can use the attacks of your power just as well. Do all of you know how to form weapons out of your powers?"

"Well, we do, but we are not proficient at it," Sehun replies, while forming a straight sword out of wind, but it suddenly dispels.

"I'll try to look for something that can help you all later. How about summoning your power in its physical form here?"

Baekhyun opens his palm and a little ball of light puff out. Chanyeol bursts into flames and in his place was a phoenix. Baekhyun attacked first. He sent the light puff in front of me and it exploded into lights, momentarily blinding me. I use Light to control it and form a Light Spear from it. I stab at Baekhyun but he blocks me with a Light Rod. We continue sparring until Baekhyun jumps back at the same time that I sent the head of the spear right at him. He blocks it when it suddenly splits into three and wraps around his body, pinning his arms to the side. Baekhyun loses his balance and falls, and comes face to face with my spear point. I cut the Light that bound him and stretched out my hand. He hesitated at first then took it. I pulled him up and told him, "You're good, Baekhyun! Really good! That was a great balance of physical prowess and the use of Light. If you can merge Light's speed with your own, you'll be faster and deadlier. I felt your killing intent. Thank you for that. I look forward to learning with you." He reddens a bit at the compliment and replies, "You were not so bad yourself, Astrid." He takes his place beside Kai and Sehun, who were drinking some leftover coconut juice.

That was the first time Baekhyun said my name. Scratch that, it was the first decent conversation we had.

I look around to find that Chanyeol has disappeared and Chen was rushing straight at me, a wicked Lightning bolt in his hand. I surround myself with Water just in time as the Phoenix slammed at me from above. I use the force to propel me to the ocean. Before the waves swallowed me, I heard the bird scream, "CHEN, NOW! USE LIGHTNING AND STRIKE THE OCEAN!" I close my eyes and Water responds. The ocean then explodes with light and brightness as Chen sends Lightning on the ocean.
