Chapter 16 - When a Strategist Takes Arms

ASTRID's POV

As I examined the spellbinding circle, I remember Melissandre. I didn't lie when I said that the circle would lead us to the Citadel. It would lead us very near to it, but the place we'll be arriving at is somewhere full of memories of my past life. I wonder how it looks like after I sent that wave on it. How many years has it been?

My eyes read on the symbols that Melissandre has placed. My eyes suddenly widen at her instructions.

"Train them well."

I laugh at the absurdity of it. I was never a fighter, much less a trainer. But times have changed and I now have a reason to fight, a person to save, and people to protect. My laugh draws them to me. I summon Water and press my hand on the sand, commanding it to make a spellbinding circle. Good thing Suho isn't here or he would have sensed them already.

"So... highness, I mean Astrid, what is the next trial?" Chanyeol asks.

I stand up and brush the sand off me. "Well, see that's the funny thing. You're looking at her."

They look at me with different expressions, but before they can move, I say, "Water Whip, Puppet Master Strings. Oh, and Kai, you can't teleport from there." I look at him as he closed his eyes and open them in defeat.

"WAAAAAH!"

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!"

"I KNEW THAT WE COULD NOT TRUST HER, I JUST-!"

"Ugh. You guys, if I was trying to kill you, I would have done so in your sleep. Just listen, okay?"

They quiet down like little kids being told off. Baekhyun and DO were giving me evil looks, Chanyeol was swinging back and forth, but aside from that, they listen. "I am not a fighter. I am a strategist. I know that we have not known each other for long, but I would like to ask for your help. I cannot do this alone." I release them from the Water strings and I kneel in front of them and give them a full bow. "Please help me save Suho."

A shadow towers over me and the person kneels and puts his hands on my shoulders. I raise my eyes and I come face to face with Chanyeol.

"Astrid. What are you talking about? We are not going to be upstaged by you just because you are a Prodigy. What do I need to do?"

"Woah, Chanyeol is being so mature and responsible all of a sudden," said Sehun

"I know, this is one of the rare moments where he is acting his age," Kai adds.

"Weeeeeh, I think Chanyeol acted before thinking. Maybe he likes Astrid," Chen waggles his eyebrows at us.

Chanyeol's ears redden, but he goes with it and suddenly hugs me. "Yes, I like her. What is not to like? She is beautiful, she is powerful, she is kind, SHE DISAPPEARED!!!"

I found myself in Kai's arms, just like how we first met. "This is how it began, right Kai?"

He looks at me and smiles at me almost sadly. "Why do I get the feeling that this will not end well? I feel like you are going somewhere far away."

"Of course I am. We all are. We are going to the Citadel, we are going to save Suho."

I am going to save all of you. I promise.

He puts me down gently, and we wave to where the others were. Chanyeol and Sehun starts running towards me and then the rest of them follow, even Baekhyun who was fighting down a smile. I send a silent prayer to the heavens.

Lunch time came and Chanyeol and D.O. volunteered to prepare it. Kai and Sehun went to the jungle to get some fruits and vegetables. Xiumin and I went fishing. We walked in silence for a while, him using Ice to make some footholds on the water and me using Water to walk on the sea's surface.
