They passed through a dwarven lumber camp with seemingly new buildings overgrown with thick vines. Apparently the work of a radical group of local wood elves who took issue with the camp.

From there, Gonghammer informed them that they were only a day or two from Magna'dur.

After traveling for so long, Connor found himself looking forward to finally seeing one of the famous dwarven cities.

Connor made a large supply of the potions and the liquid fire. Giving Adelia a supply of all of it in case she needed it. Connor was thrilled to learn that she was even able to use the new potions. Even her incredible natural rate of healing and recovery was aided by a healing potion.

The caravan had moved smoothly for the most part and they'd been told they were now nearing Magna'dur. So, Connor spent the last leg of their journey making two new potions.

They were at the Intermediate rank. A rank above anything he'd made so far.

Although, the notes in his codex said that they were vastly easier to make than most potions of the same rank. It seemed that the ranks were more of a rough guideline more than anything else.

Still, these ones were vastly more difficult than anything he'd attempted so far.

One was the potion of condensed rest which would make anyone who took it require less sleep. They would still get all the same benefits of a full night of rest but in half the time. Or less depending on the strength and skill of the alchemist.

The extra time it would free up would be a massive boon considering the impossible task that lay before them.

That, and, he hoped it would help Adelia sleep more soundly. They'd taken to sharing a bedroll to keep up their cover and he'd noticed that she seemed to have frequent nightmares.

Thankfully, they eased when he held her for some reason. His own dreams weren't much better.

If he got it right, the potion would knock them out almost the instant they took it and give them an extremely restful night's sleep in half the time. The only downside was that they'd be next to impossible to wake up, so he doubted they'd use it while on the dangerous roads.

And, if he got the potion wrong... they would slip into a coma and possibly never wake again. So, it seemed wise to be meticulous in its creation.

It was the second potion however that seemed the most useful as well as the most dangerous.

It was the potion of accelerated learning. A potent potion that radically improved the imbiber's ability to learn and memorize. But, even just the process of creating the potion was dangerous as the fumes could cause hallucinations and death. With a similar fate befalling anyone who drank an improperly prepared one.

Still, despite the dangers, Connor was confident he could make them. And, if he had even the slightest doubt, he would simply discard them and try again until he got it right.

And so Connor got to work preparing his potions. The potion of condensed rest had been tricky, but he believed he'd created it successfully.

Just to be on the safe side, he asked Adelia to catch him something he could test it on without risking either of them or their horses.

She returned with a ferret. The poor thing squirmed and tried to get free of her grip but to no avail. It took a degree of effort and coaxing to get the animal to lap up some of the mixture and it passed out before it came anywhere near finishing a vial.

Eight hours later, the ferret was still passed out. Its chest rose and fell smoothly and Connor wondered what he'd done wrong and how he might reverse the process.
