As he dressed and looked over her sleeping form, every breath washing his mind with her exotic scent, he couldn't help but feel that it was going to be tricky not to get used to the pleasant smell and feel of her...
He shook his head, trying to avoid thinking anything that'd surely end with her sticking a dagger between his ribs.
He took another potion of accelerated learning and got to work, making sure to leave some out for Adelia as it ought to help her with her studies. He left her a few more vials of the potion of condensed rest too. Just in case she hadn't taken any because she was worried about their supplies.
It was one of the few potions he could get ingredients for without too much hassle, and he made a mental note to remind her of that. He didn't want her missing out on the benefits he could give her with his potions, after all.
He got stuck into his work again, picking up where he left off the previous day and rapidly moving forward.
There were times he wished he had a tutor to barrage with questions as even with his potions, some things were difficult to figure out.
He made a note of his questions and things he found tricky and built up a list of them to ask a master so he could do so all at once rather than going back and forth over and over again.
He was sure it wouldn't be too hard to ply a smith with enough gold to get them to answer whatever he wanted to know.
In the meantime, he focused on learning on his own where he wouldn't have to hide his rapid progress, and where he answered many of his own questions with just a bit more practice.
Adelia interrupted him after what seemed like no time at all as she wanted to cast some of the spells she'd spoken about the previous day. She seemed unlike her usual self as she talked rapidly, her words spilling over themselves in a rush to get on with it.
"You took the potion, didn't you?" Connor asked.
"Yes," Adelia said as she drew out a chalk diagram around him, "It feels incredible. Like my mind is clear for the first time. No darkness. Nothing but quiet. When I saw you, I thought it would feel intense and maddening... but it feels so peaceful.
"So smooth and calm and still and beautiful. Now hold still. This is going to be tricky enough... hopefully, this doesn't break my peace... it's an innocent enough spell... if I start to lose it... don't run. Just try to talk me down."
Connor nodded his ascent and Adelia checked over her work, studying the chalk circle for a moment before nodding to herself.
"This spell should show us your magic and hopefully whatever might be causing an issue with it," Adelia said, "There should be no danger since we're only taking a look and not trying to change anything. But, if you feel something strange let me know immediately. Are you ready?"
"Yes," Connor said, "Thanks for doing this."
Adelia nodded and began chanting her spell. Her words had a musical quality to them and began to distort with power as the hairs on Connor's body prickled.
She repeated her chant, each phrase building the charge of magic in the air as the circle around Connor flared with purple magic.
The purple magic expanded outward, swirling around and through him as Adelia chanted.
Connor frowned. It felt peculiar and intimate... he felt hesitant and somewhat embarrassed to mention that, but she'd said to say if he felt anything so it seemed wise to heed her warning...
"It feels like... you," Connor said, "like spice and warm comfort."
Adelia's eyes widened with surprise for a moment before turning thoughtful. She nodded as though it should be fine, all without breaking her chant.
