Jake's POV

With eyes still closed, I reached out towards my bedside table and grabbed my phone.

6:20am.

As much as I would like to sleep in a bit longer, my duties would have to come first before my beauty sleep. These few days there has been rouge sightings near our territory perimeter, and we would often catch the scent of those mutts trespassing into my land. Though none of them has started an attack or done any sort of harm, it's always best to take caution. You can never be too sure around those stinking dogs.

You're a dog too Jake.

Who's side are you on traitor?

My own's. But I can tell you one thing about sides, mate is defiantly not sleeping beside you right now.

I shot up straight away and was greeted by the other half of my bed. It was still tucked into the bed, pillows still placed properly at the head of the bed. There wasn't even a need for me to check if it was cold or not. Clearly, Ashley decided to skip out on her sleep. Again.

I sighed and ran a hand through my hair, breaking the tangled and knots as I did so.

It's been like this ever since.. Well, I don't know. I would wake up and see no Ashley by my side. At first, I brushed away the thought, 'maybe she woke up like, way earlier or something?', until day after day I would awake to see my bedside empty and the sheets cold. Oddly enough, I would never panic and think that she'd have been taken or anything, because every morning, without fail, I would see her once again in the living room or wandering around the pack house. If I ever tried to ask her what happened and why did she get out of bed so early, she'd throw in an excuse. Every question I threw, she always had an answer to repel with, like she had actually practiced for this moment.

"Oh, I wasn't tired."

"Well excuse me for being neat and making my side of the bed, unlike you."

"Eh, who cares? Want some toast?"

It almost seemed like she was purposefully trying to avoid getting into contact with me. Any chance she got, she'd make a quick announcement to me that she would be going out for a walk or to visit the town or some bullshit. The only time I ever get to see her nowadays is when I get up to the kitchen for breakfast. Then, she just .. Leaves.

After washing up, I went down the stairs to the kitchen where my princess would be either leaning against the counter, cooking breakfast or nagging at Alex.

"Ah! Morning babe, it's eggs and bacon today!" She waved the spatula in the air while keeping another hand on the pan handle.

Strike on. There she is again, hair tied up to a loose ponytail, full on Converse, cooking breakfast. This pattern has become so constant, even an outsider spending a day or two here could predict.

Behind her, sitting at the counter bar was Alex and Sam with Alex trying to feed his mate a piece of bacon.

"Alex no! You need to eat more, there has been a lot of rouge problems lately right? You need your strength-- I saw that! Take that egg back!" Sam pouted with a slight blush and tried to toss in some of her food on Alex's plate.

I can't help but feel a little bit jealous. I mean, Ashley is my mate and I love her, more than my own life in fact, but we never seem to have any of these romantic scenes at all. Even back when she would actually sleep in bed! I mean, come on! These two are like couples right out of a cheesy romance movie. The simple act of eating breakfast can cause a scene like.. This!
